p.1

Leadership and governance Needs attention

Leaders' oversight of the provision is not secure. There are some breaches of the early years foundation stage requirements that leaders have not identified. They have not kept up to date with all the changes to the statutory requirements, especially those relating to safer- sleep arrangements for younger children. Staff have not received specific training to help them understand about how to meet younger children's needs and best interests, particularly when they require a nap after school and how this differs from caring with school-age children.

p.1

Leadership and governance Needs attention

Leaders complete staff supervisions, regularly check on their wellbeing and carefully consider their workload. Staff receive mandatory training, such as safeguarding and paediatric first aid. However, there are no robust systems in place to identify and address gaps in individual staff's knowledge and understanding through personalised professional development programmes. Despite these weaknesses, leaders ensure that all staff are safely recruited and suitable to work with children.

p.1

Leadership and governance Needs attention

Leaders recognise the importance of ensuring that staff understand children's individual care needs before they attend the club. They explain how they aim to establish close working relationships with parents and carers, as well as staff at children's school, to gather important information. This enables club staff to seek further guidance from schools, particularly about children who face barriers to their development. Leaders explain that they are committed to supporting children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families. They want staff to be alert to children's individual vulnerabilities and to provide appropriate, tailored support so these children can have full access to the club's provision.

p.2

Leadership and governance Needs attention

Leaders describe how they promote healthy lifestyles for younger children. They explain that the club offers a variety of healthy snacks and a wide range of physical activities. Leaders are keen to broaden children's experiences by providing opportunities to try activities they may not have encountered before. For example, children can participate in a range of sports, including badminton, cricket and basketball.
