p.3
Summary of findings
The manager makes effective use of monitoring systems to track children’s progress. However, further work is required to strengthen the plans in place to keep children safe and to notify Ofsted in line with regulations when concerns have been raised by staff.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Since the last inspection, 2 children have moved into the home. Staff take a sensitive approach to ensure that children feel welcomed and begin to build relationships with staff before moving into the home. Careful consideration is given to the children’s needs and the needs of children already living in the home.
p.3

Professionals and parents report that they have seen an improvement in children’s overall wellbeing and describe the staff as attentive in meeting the needs and safety of children in the home.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Staff support children to share their views, wishes and feelings. Staff adapt their approaches to ensure that children are understood and heard. They engage children in direct discussions to support them to understand their behaviours and how to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Staff support children to access all required health appointments. When children refuse to attend health appointments, staff encourage and engage children in direct discussions to discuss the importance of health services. This has supported one child to attend an outstanding optician’s appointment.
p.3
Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good
Children have good attendance in school. When there have been barriers to children attending education facilities, staff have consulted with providers to pursue a smooth transition back into school. Staff engage children in learning when they do not attend; for example, one child is supported with their independence skills. Inspection report for children’s home: 2772599 4 The condition of the home requires improvement. Paintwork is stained, walls are marked and damaged in places, and some furniture in children’s bedrooms is broken. Externally, the garage door is damaged. These issues detract from the overall quality of the living environment for children.
p.3
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Staff understand their roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe from harm and take action to reduce risks. However, plans to keep children safe are inaccurate and do not provide clear guidance for staff to follow.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
When children go missing from the home, staff take swift action to ensure their safe return home. They conduct searches of local areas where children are known to visit and make continued attempts to contact children by telephone. Staff consult with family and friends to ascertain the children’s whereabouts and contact relevant professionals, including the emergency duty team, social worker and the police.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Room searches are conducted in response to risks and for the safety of children. Staff conduct these in consultation with children and take a sensitive approach. Each room search is recorded; the reason for the search and children’s views are obtained. The manager has effective oversight of room search documentation and identifies any further actions required.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Physical restraint is used as a last resort and has reduced for one child who has come to live in the home. Staff record each incident, and records are reviewed and evaluated by the manager. Following each incident, the children and staff are spoken with, and children are offered creative alternatives to verbalise their feelings, including drawing pictures.
p.4
How well children and young people are helped and protected: good
Allegations made by children about staff are taken seriously. There is a prompt response, and the manager ensures that information is shared with the appropriate agencies. Although allegations about staff are taken seriously, on one occasion, managers did not notify Ofsted in line with regulations.
p.4
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good
