Deep dive

What this report says

In plain English

critical

The childminder was found not meeting several requirements, took action, and is still registered with Ofsted.

Ofsted made regulatory visits in June 2025, February 2026 and April 2026 after concerns about the childminding service. Inspectors found several requirements were not being met, including staff to child ratios, supervision, attendance records and notifying Ofsted of a significant event. By April 2026 the childminder had responded to all the actions set, although a notifiable event was still not reported at that visit. The childminder remains registered.

Going well

  • Responded to all actions set by Ofsted by April 2026
  • Improved supervision arrangements and headcounts of children
  • Staff to child ratios now met and paediatric first aid training in place
  • Improved record keeping of children's attendance

To improve

  • Notify Ofsted promptly of significant events and changes in working arrangements
  • Ensure all assistants are deemed suitable before being included in ratios
  • Keep children within sight and hearing, including during transitions to and from the car

What parents should know

  • Ask how the childminder now keeps children in sight and hearing during transitions, such as car journeys.
  • Ask whether any assistants have been checked and approved by Ofsted before they work with your child.
  • The childminder is still registered, and inspectors found the required first aid training was in place by April 2026.

What other providers can learn

  • Check that ratios are kept at all times, including when assistants or outings are involved.
  • Make sure a notifiable event is reported to Ofsted promptly and that staff know what counts as one.
  • Keep accurate daily attendance records showing the times children arrive and leave.

Summary of outcome

All early years providers must meet the legal requirements in the Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage, which you can find at www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2. If we find that a provider is not meeting the requirements, we can take action to ensure they put matters right.

p.1

Summary of outcome

In May 2025, we received concerns that the provider was not meeting some of these requirements. On 13 June 2025, we carried out a regulatory visit. We found the provider was not meeting some of the requirements and had taken action to put this right. Supervision arrangements had been improved and better headcounts of children to ensure all children are accounted for at all times. The childminder has improved her knowledge of what she needs to notify Ofsted of, including when working with new individuals so that the relevant vetting procedures are followed to ensure suitability can be determined.

p.1

Summary of outcome

In January and February 2026, we received concerns that the provider was not meeting some of the requirements relating to suitable people and staff to child ratios. On 5 February 2026, we carried out a regulatory visit. We found the provider was not meeting some of the requirements and we raised a number of actions.

p.1

Summary of outcome

We carried out a further regulatory visit on 16 April 2026 and found that the provider had responded to all of the actions set. We found the provider had improved her knowledge and understanding of safer recruitment procedures, was now meeting the required staff to child ratios, supervision arrangements had improved and her record keeping, particularly around recording children's attendance. Also, those working with children had the required paediatric first aid training.

p.2

Summary of outcome

We did, however, find that the provider had failed to notify Ofsted of a significant event, which is a requirement of their registration. She has now improved her knowledge in this area around what is classed as a notifiable event. The provider is still registered with Ofsted.

p.2

Publication of compliance action

We aim to ensure that the welfare of children and young people is protected in the services we regulate. The Childcare Act 2006 and accompanying regulations set out our responsibilities to regulate childminders and childcare providers. This includes the enforcement powers we have in relation to those registered providers who do not comply with the requirements for registration.

p.2

Publication of compliance action

We publish details of any actions we take, or the childminder or childcare provider takes to bring about compliance with requirements on our website for a period of five years.
