A private provider runs this children’s home. The home provides support for up to 3 children who may have social and emotional needs. At the time of the inspection, one child was living in the home and was spoken with during the inspection.

p.1

Information about this children’s home

The manager is leaving the home, and the responsible individual and the interim manager led the inspection.

p.1

This monitoring visit

This children’s home was judged inadequate at the full inspection on 14 and 15 July 2026. Compliance notices were issued under Regulation 12 (the protection of children standard) and Regulation 13 (the leadership and management standard). This was because serious shortfalls in safeguarding practice and the leadership and management of the home were identified.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The home is currently without a registered manager.

p.1

This monitoring visit

The responsible individual agreed to a restriction on children being placed at the home for 8 weeks. This was a self-imposed restriction.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Leaders in the home have implemented a detailed action plan in response to the findings of the full inspection. This addressed the shortfalls identified in the compliance notices which were issued.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Leaders recruited the services of an external professional to complete a safeguarding review in the home which led to the action plan being agreed. This professional also delivered training to staff on key areas as identified as required. This supported the team to reflect on their own practice and expand their skills and knowledge. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2825478 2 Training for staff has been effective and has increased staff knowledge of safeguarding, their individual responsibilities to record and report incidents and an understanding of the roles of safeguarding partners.

p.1

This monitoring visit

Staff roles have been more clearly defined and senior staff are being given additional training and are being supported to take a lead within the team. Senior staff delivered training to the team to develop their understanding of care planning.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Leaders have used the systems already in the home, such as team meetings and supervisions, to reinforce staff skills and knowledge. The use of questioning, scenarios and self-reflection has enhanced their learning.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The responsible individual has improved manager oversight through the use of daily oversight tools and by providing guidance, flowcharts and checklists for the manager and staff. This supports staff to ensure that all required steps are considered if a safeguarding incident occurs.

p.2

This monitoring visit

Staff have been held accountable for their actions relating to safeguarding issues. The team have worked together and agreed boundaries to help them be more consistent in their practice.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The child living in the home has made good progress over recent weeks. Staff have talked to them about safety issues and supported the rekindling of a childhood friendship.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The child has grown in confidence in recent weeks, is taking pride in their appearance and is seeing friends. They are developing independence skills which are vital for their future.

p.2

This monitoring visit

The child’s plans are up to date and detailed. The behaviour support plan gives clear indicators to support staff if the child is distressed but does not give clear guidance around how and when staff might physically intervene if necessary.

p.2

This monitoring visit

This inspection focused on the compliance notices issued under regulations 12 and 13 (The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015). Leaders have made progress in this area. A previously stated requirement was not reviewed and previous recommendations. These have been restated. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2825478 3
