p.1
Safeguarding
Leaders have ensured that staff are vigilant of pupils’ welfare. Staff know the signs to look for that could indicate that pupils may be at risk. In particular, they know to be mindful of how pupils’ additional needs may affect their welfare. Daily morning briefings enable staff to discuss pupils’ additional needs and their welfare, including any concerns that may have arisen overnight.
p.2
Safeguarding
Staff know what to do if they are concerned about a pupil’s welfare, or about the actions of an adult towards pupils. Staff receive regular safeguarding training and updates. These enable them to be secure in their understanding of their responsibilities in caring for pupils. Staff know how to escalate any safeguarding concerns to professionals external to the school should the need arise.
p.2
Safeguarding
Leaders responsible for safeguarding respond in a timely and appropriate manner to any concerns about pupils’ welfare. They ensure that pupils receive the right support at the right time, including by working closely with parents and carers and with external agencies. Leaders are reflective. They regularly review their work in relation to safeguarding. They do this to help them to spot any patterns and trends of concern, and to ensure that they sharpen their safeguarding practice when this is appropriate.
p.2
Safeguarding
Pupils feel safe. They have staff with whom they can share any concerns that they may have. Pupils are confident that staff will support them and help them to resolve their concerns.
p.2
Safeguarding
Pupils learn how to keep themselves safe, including when online and when out in the community. Leaders ensure that specific support, including through tailored safeguarding education, is provided to pupils when the need arises to help them to understand how to keep themselves safe.
p.2
Safeguarding
The school uses the services of alternative provision when this is appropriate to meeting pupils’ needs. This includes when pupils struggle to engage with their education on the school’s site. Leaders undertake the necessary checks on any alternative provision that they use. When appropriate, staff attend the provision any pupils may use so that they are able to monitor the provision and check on the pupils’ progress and welfare.
p.2
Safeguarding
Leaders monitor the wellbeing of any pupils who receive their education through their outreach programme, to ensure that these pupils are kept safe. Clovelly House School, 9 September 2026 3 The school’s safeguarding policy is available on the school’s website.
p.2
Health and safety and fire safety
The school’s health and safety and fire safety policies are appropriate. Leaders undertake regular health and safety and fire safety checks. These checks involve professionals external to the school when this is appropriate. Leaders act swiftly to resolve any concerns that any such checks should raise regarding the school premises, staff knowledge and experience, or school procedures. Leaders ensure that practice fire evacuations take place regularly so that pupils know how to respond in the event of a fire.
p.3
Supervision of pupils
The school has sufficient numbers of staff to ensure that there are appropriate levels of supervision, including if the school is given permission to implement the proposed material change. Pupils report that staff supervision is consistent throughout the day, including at social times.
p.3
Supervision of pupils
The proprietor is committed to further recruitment, should this be necessary, if the maximum number of pupils is increased in line with the proposed material change. This is particularly the case where any additional pupils’ needs require further supervision.
p.3
Risk assessment
The school’s risk assessment policy is appropriate. Leaders ensure that staff implement the policy effectively. Staff are involved in the drawing up of a range of risk assessments, including for individual pupils. Through this process, they identify relevant risks and appropriate mitigations. Senior leaders maintain oversight of this process to ensure that there is agreement across the staff and accuracy in the final risk assessments. Most risk assessments are reviewed at least termly. However, when a new risk is identified, the relevant risk assessments are reviewed immediately. Staff are informed of any changes to risk assessments so that they are fully informed of how to manage any known or new risks.
