Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC043972 1 SC043972 Registered provider: Cambian Childcare Limited
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The home is owned by a private company It is registered to provide care for up to 5 children who may experience social and emotional difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
At the time of the inspection, 3 children were living at the home. The inspector spoke to 2 children about their experiences of living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At a full inspection on 8 July 2026, the home was judged as inadequate. Compliance notices relating to Regulation 12, ‘The protection of children standards’, and Regulation 13, ‘The leadership and management standard’, were issued.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this visit was to monitor the action taken to meet the steps in the compliance notices. Sufficient action has not been taken to meet all the steps in the notices.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, one child has moved from the home. Another child is also soon to move out as staff are unable to keep the child safe. Consequently, children’s experiences are not always positive.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager has updated the children’s risk management plans and staff have read and signed to say they have understood. However, on two occasions staff have not followed a child’s missing from home risk assessment and staff have not called the police as directed by the manager. The provider is taking action to investigate these incidents.
p.1
This monitoring visit
When there has been concerns for a child being under the influence of a substance health support has been sought without delay and room searches undertaken. Children are being supported to access internal clinical support as well as external Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC043972 2 professional support. However, a member of staff was unclear on what action to take if there were concerns about a child’s emotional well-being. This does not offer reassurance that the training that has been delivered to staff is effective.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staff do not consistently demonstrate the skills or confidence needed to manage chal- lenging behaviour safely and effectively. Staff responses to incidents are variable, and one situation escalated to the point that police have been called to the home to manage the children’s behaviour. The manager’s oversight did not include reflection on why a member of staff ran away from the home and any follow up to why the on-call man- ager did not answer their phone when support was required.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff report that children's routines have improved. However, on one occasion, children were permitted to remain in the garden late at night, which subsequently resulted in them going missing from the home. Following this incident, the manager did not identify all the practice shortfalls or take sufficient action to address them. This does not provide assurance that children are consistently supported to maintain appropriate routines or that safeguarding risks are effectively managed
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff have received further training on a number of topics, including asthma, self- harm and suicidal ideation, improving outcomes for children and substance misuse. The manager has undertaken reflective practice discussions and evaluated staff’s knowledge and understanding.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The home was clean and tidy and previous concerns in respect of the home environment have been addressed. However, one child had been smoking cannabis in their bedroom, and appropriate action was not taken. During the inspection two children were observed with an electronic cigarettes, which went unchallenged by the staff.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff say that the manager is supportive and teamwork is improving.
p.2
This monitoring visit
All serious incidents have been notified to Ofsted in line with regulatory requirements.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The other requirements regarding areas of concerns raised at the last inspection have not all been considered during the visit. The actions will be reviewed at the next inspection. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC043972 3
