Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the 'Guide to the Children's Homes Regulations, including the quality standards'. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2827130 2
p.1
Summary of findings
The purpose of this assurance inspection was to review the leadership and staffing arrangements in the home following concerns that had been raised with Ofsted.
p.2
Summary of findings
The inspection identified significant weaknesses in the leadership and staffing arrangements. The current manager is due to leave in August 2026 and, at the time of the inspection, no replacement manager had been appointed. The responsible individual and director have been recently appointed and are currently undergoing recruitment checks. In addition, recent staff departures have resulted in an insufficient number of suitably qualified staff to meet the needs of children and to ensure the safe operation of the home.
p.2
Summary of findings
The home provides a warm and welcoming environment. It is well maintained and presented to a good standard. Children's bedrooms and communal areas, including the lounge, games room and kitchen, are appropriately furnished, comfortable and well decorated.
p.2
Summary of findings
Leaders do not ensure that the statement of purpose is reviewed and shared with Ofsted in a timely manner. Following significant changes to the staffing team, leaders failed to update the document and provide the revised version to the regulator. This means that the statement of purpose does not accurately reflect the current operation of the home.
p.2
Summary of findings
Recruitment processes are generally followed. Leaders appropriately explore concerns identified through references for prospective staff. However, recruitment records do not consistently demonstrate that leaders have obtained information about the reasons why some staff left previous roles involving work with children. Consequently, it is not always evident how leaders have satisfied themselves that these individuals are suitable for employment within the home.
