Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2592750 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, there have been no children at the home. Therefore, several of the last requirements have not been tested and have been reinstated. One has been met.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have taken some steps to provide oversight of the home however, these are not yet embedded. Leaders and managers have held reflective meetings to consider the experiences of the children who have lived at the home. These meetings have helped to identify learning and ways to improve care for children that move in.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, there have been several changes to leaders and managers. A new manager and deputy manager have been recruited to oversee the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have undertaken a detailed learning review. This includes the quality of care provided and reflects on the shortfalls identified at the last inspection. A clear action plan to address these shortfalls is awaiting sign off by the director of care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have considered how the staff can be better supported. A supervision framework has been developed to ensure that the staff can access structured support. This will help to ensure that the staff have the space to reflect on their practice and continue to develop. Staff have regular supervision sessions. Any concerns about staff conduct have been monitored during supervision sessions and the identification of training needs. This support has helped staff to improve their practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff are gaining experience through shadowing opportunities at the provider’s other homes. This has helped the staff to build confidence and new skills before the next child moves in. Staff are supported while deployed at the other homes to continue to build relationships in preparation for working together as a staff team.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have developed resources to ensure better oversight of children’s moves to the home. An opening handbook has been formulated and considers the readiness of the property, admissions and the early experiences and needs of the children moving in. Consequently, children’s moves should be well planned. Steps are being taken to equip the staff team to manage the risks children may face, however these have not yet been tested.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home’s location and premises suitability assessment has been reviewed. Known risks in the area are reflected and consider the impact on children alongside the suitability of those moving in. Since the last inspection, the statement of purpose Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2592750 3 has been updated. However, there are recent changes to the staff team which are not yet reflected.
