p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the 'Guide to the Children's Homes Regulations, including the quality standards'. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2803004 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

This inspection was carried out to address specific concerns received by Ofsted. We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The impact of significant organisational changes on staffing arrangements, management at this home and the care children receive has been reviewed as part of this inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, one child has continued to live at the home. They are settled, comfortable and at ease with staff. The child is subject to a deprivation of liberty order. This is kept under close review, and the level of staff supervision has reduced in response to the progress the child has made. The child is proud of their achievements.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Another child has moved into the home since the last inspection. Due to the child's circumstances, the placement was made at short notice. Following a difficult first few days, the child is starting to settle and develop positive relationships with key members of staff. Importantly, the children get on well with each other and enjoy taking part in activities together with staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There is a consistent staff team that works in this home. This helps to ensure that children receive continuity in their care and are supported by staff who know them well.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Two new staff members have started their induction. Leaders have improved the induction process, and new staff have opportunities to shadow more experienced colleagues. The use of agency staff remains high. However, leaders use a consistent group of agency workers who are familiar to the children. Children say that they know the staff who care for them.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff have completed refresher training in de-escalation and safe holding. Following incidents, staff come together to reflect on what happened and consider whether situations could have been managed differently. This supports staff to learn from incidents and adapt their practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The director completed an investigation following a safeguarding concern. However, the investigation was not sufficiently thorough, and they had not gathered and considered all relevant evidence. Leaders recognise the shortfalls and are completing the necessary further enquiries.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff do not consistently sign and date incident and missing-from-home reports, making staff accountability difficult for leaders and managers to manage and review. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2803004 3 The registered manager maintains oversight of the home, with support from the wider leadership team. Staff say that managers are available and that they feel well supported. Regular supervision and team meetings provide opportunities to review children's needs, discuss practice and agree consistent approaches to their care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The requirement and one recommendation made at the full inspection were outside the scope of this inspection and will be reviewed at the next inspection. Two additional recommendations have been made. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2803004 4
