p.1
Leadership and governance Expected standard
The childminder demonstrates, through discussion, that she has a good understanding of the learning and developmental needs of children. She has procedures in place to check each child's progress. The childminder is aware that children may have special educational needs and/or disabilities. She has a particular interest in supporting children who speak English as an additional language. She identifies the need to plan small steps for these children. She aims to create activities that interest them. She recognises this will help to set achievable goals and also raise children's confidence and independence. The childminder intends to makes sure books are at the heart of her curriculum. She discusses that sharing books with children is important and recognises this will help them develop their communication and language skills.
p.1
Leadership and governance Expected standard
The childminder has secure policies and procedures in place to safeguard children's welfare and wellbeing. She recognises the need to collect information from families about children's needs. This includes health and allergy requirements, as well as information about any special educational needs and/or disabilities. She knows that this contributes to providing effective care for all children. The childminder has made improvements to her setting recently with a focus on the outside area, making it safer and accessible with artificial grass for year round outside play. She reflects on her work and values the importance of professional development. She updates her knowledge through online early years updates and further training. The childminder intends to contribute positively to her community. She understands the need to work with local schools and nurseries at times of transition, for example, by talking to teachers when a child is visiting their new reception class.

About this inspection
We carried out this inspection under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of provision that is registered on the Early Years Register. The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children's learning, development and care, known as the early years foundation stage.
p.3
About this inspection
There were no early years children present and/or on roll at the time of this inspection. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with leaders and an inspection of the premises, equipment and any relevant documentation. When there are no early years children present, inspectors evaluate and grade only leadership and governance, as there is no reliable evidence from other evaluation areas through which to assess the impact on children.
