p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the 'Guide to the Children's Homes Regulations, including the quality standards'. Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC457318 2 FOR PUBLIC RELEASE

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, one child has left the home to move into supported accommodation and 2 new children have moved to live in the home. One child spoke with the inspector and said that they like living in this home and they get on well with the staff who care for them. They can talk to the staff if they are worried about something.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The home is presented as clean and well maintained. There are comfortable places to sit and spacious areas for children to play. Children have access to books, toys and games to play with. One child enjoyed riding their bike with supervision from the staff. Some areas of the home are being further improved to make them feel more homely.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Managers support positive moves into the home. They gather detailed information about children, and develop positive plans to help children get to know the staff. There are clear plans in place, so staff know how to care for the children.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Positive feedback was received from one social worker who said that communication with managers and staff is very good. They said the staff are working hard to keep the child safe and they are kept well informed about anything that happens.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Managers have taken positive steps to ensure that there is a stable team of staff in place who can support each child effectively and meet their care needs. Staff have a good understanding of how to care for each child to ensure their needs are being met consistently.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

For one child, new plans have been put in place around their mobile phone use but these have only just commenced. A monitoring system is now in place to ensure that this is a safe arrangement, and staff are teaching the child how to use their phone safely. Further reviews of the plans are required to see if they are effective.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When one child raised a concern about staff practice, it was investigated thoroughly and external agencies were informed. The manager ensured that the child was listened to and action was taken to investigate the concern. Feedback was provided to the child when the investigation ended so the child knew what action had been taken. Learning was taken from this incident due to there being some delays in this incident being reported to the manager. There was no impact on the child's safety because of this delay.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

On some occasions, staff have not maintained professional boundaries and learning is being taken from this to improve practice in the home. Assurance inspection report for children's home: SC457318 3 FOR PUBLIC RELEASE

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff said that they enjoy working in the home and they are well supported by their manager. They find their manager to be approachable and there are regular conversations taking place to improve standards in the home. Staff do not always have regular formal supervision, and this was acknowledged by the manager. An action plan has been developed by the managers to ensure that practice in the home continues to improve.
