Information about this children’s home
One child was living in the home at the time of the visit.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This children’s home was judged inadequate at a full inspection on 13, 14 and 15 May 2026. Serious shortfalls were found in safeguarding practice, recruitment of staff and in the leadership and management arrangements in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
As a result, Ofsted made a decision to issue compliance notices under Regulation 12, the protection of children standard; Regulation 13, the leadership and management standard; and Regulation 32, the fitness of workers standard.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this visit was to monitor the action taken by the provider to meet the steps outlined in the 3 compliance notices.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The manager and responsible individual of the home have developed and implemented an action plan. This has supported change in the home to ensure that the areas of concern are appropriately addressed.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders have reviewed recruitment policies and procedures and audited all recruitment files. Through this process, the leadership team has been able to demonstrate adherence to regulation through robust checks of staff’s previous employment. Where there is a lack of clarity with regard to the employment history of a staff member, additional references are explored and risks are thoroughly assessed to ensure their suitability to work with children. Action has been taken to Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2859322 2 ensure that disciplinary action is taken against staff who do not meet the required threshold.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Due to the changes made, the provider has taken sufficient action to meet the steps of the compliance notice under Regulation 32.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have reviewed their practice of using agency workers, and a team of internal bank staff has been recruited. Since the last inspection, no agency staff have been used. A new deputy manager has been identified to support the registered manager and provide the team with additional support. All staff who have completed their probationary period have been placed on the nationally recognised training required for their role.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders have introduced new monitoring systems to raise standards in the quality of care provided for children. For example, a new independent person has been recruited to provide monthly feedback to leaders and managers. This has helped managers better understand areas for service development. Alongside this, new recording documents have been introduced to support staff supervision. Staff report that this has improved the quality of their practice, although this needs to be further embedded.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The leadership team has completed a review of documentation to ensure that children’s plans and risk assessments contain clear strategies for staff to follow in order to manage known risks. This is an area of ongoing development.
p.2
This monitoring visit
When incidents have occurred, behaviours have been appropriately understood. The leadership team has ensured that debriefs and evaluations have been completed to support learning from incidents. These are used to inform behaviour support plans that promote de-escalation. There have been no physical interventions since the last inspection.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Due to the limited experience of staff, training has been prioritised by the leadership team. Consequently, the majority of staff have been trained in areas that support the needs of the child living in the home. This has equipped staff to deliver meaningful key work that reduces risks linked to child criminal exploitation, promotes the safe use of electronic devices and helps staff support children’s emotional wellbeing. There are, however, some staff who have yet to complete specific training linked to children’s access to social media and the internet. As a result, requirements linked to the adequacy of staff training remain in place.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Not all additional requirements issued at the last inspection were considered as part of this monitoring visit. These will be considered as part of the next full inspection. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2859322 3
