Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456330 1 SC456330 Registered provider: Cambian Childcare Ltd
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This privately run home offers care for up to 4 children who have social and emotional difficulties.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager left in January 2026. A new manager has been in post since May 2026 and is not yet registered.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
One child has moved out since the last inspection. There was one child living at the home at the time of this visit. This child was spoken to.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This visit was carried out to review the steps in the compliance notices served following the full inspection on 12 and 13 May 2026. The compliance notices were served under regulation 13, the leadership and management standard, and regulation 12, the protection of children standard. At this visit, the steps in the compliance notice under regulation 13 were met. However, the steps under regulation 12 were not met. Therefore, a further compliance notice has been served under regulation 12. A restriction of accommodation notice remains in place.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, there have been several changes at the home. A new manager started immediately after the last inspection. They have been continuing to work to improve staff practice.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, staff have failed to consistently respond to a child going missing from the home. On one occasion, the child was able to go missing from the home overnight without staff noticing. The police notified staff several hours later when they found the child. Staff failed to supervise the child when they were awake in the night and assure themselves that they had seen the child. Staff were not Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456330 2 curious about what the child was doing overnight and who they were speaking to before they left the home. This lack of staff supervision meant that the child has been missing without staff being aware, and was at risk of harm in the local community.
p.1
This monitoring visit
This child has experienced several significant self-harm episodes. These have required hospital stays and treatment over several days. At the time of the last inspection, staff were not responding effectively to these concerns. Since then, staff have been responding quickly and helping the child to attend hospital as needed. This ensures that the child receives necessary treatment quickly. Despite some improvement in supporting the child, leaders and managers decided that they could not keep this child safe. This child had an unplanned ending and moved out of the home quickly following a serious incident.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Since the last inspection, leaders and managers have worked to address several of the shortfalls identified. While there is some improvement in oversight and staff practice, these improvements are yet to be tested, leading to most of the previous requirements being restated.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have improved their oversight and monitoring of records, including incidents and follow-up discussions with staff. The home continues to be supported by 2 managers as part of the planned handover to the new manager. This is helping to ensure that the necessary improvements begin to be implemented.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have identified additional training for staff, and several completed this in the month of this visit. Several other staff had still to do the training, which was planned for the following month. The majority of staff have now received specific training in relation to a child’s needs. This helps staff to cater for the child’s individual needs.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leaders and managers have ensured that all staff received supervision sessions in May and June 2026. This has helped the staff to learn from incidents and reflect on practice improvements. Staff are undertaking additional learning through supervision and team meetings to increase their knowledge of safeguarding practice. The new manager is providing good communication to the staff team about changes to staff practice and improvement plans for the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The child said that some things had started to improve and that they felt safer. Their relationships with some staff have improved, however, several of the staff still failed to positively and meaningfully engage with them. Despite some positives, this child remains unhappy and plans to move out of the home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Feedback from a child’s social worker said that since the last inspection, communication from leaders and managers has improved. The new manager has been involved in several care planning meetings and is a more visible presence at the home. This is helping to assure the social worker that their child is now safer. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456330 3 Several requirements and 2 recommendations were not tested as part of this visit, and these have been restated. One requirement has been met.
