Safeguarding standards met

The safeguarding standards are met. This means that leaders and/or those responsible for governance and oversight fulfil their specific responsibilities and have established an open culture in which safeguarding is everyone's responsibility and concerns are actively identified, acted upon and managed. As a result, children are made safer and feel safe.

p.1

How we evaluate safeguarding

When we inspect settings for safeguarding, they can have the following outcomes:

p.1

How we evaluate safeguarding

Met: The setting has an open and positive culture of safeguarding. Not met: The setting has not created an open and positive culture of safeguarding. Not all legal requirements are met.

p.1

Behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines Expected standard

Children typically behave well and understand the expectations of the club. They follow routines confidently and respond positively to guidance from staff throughout the session. Staff maintain clear and consistent expectations, helping children understand boundaries and routines across the mixed-age provision.

p.2

Behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines Expected standard

Children generally engage well alongside children of different ages throughout the day. They share resources, take turns and include others in activities and conversations. For example, during group discussions, children listen attentively to reminders about club expectations, handwashing, safety procedures and the importance of using kind and respectful behaviour towards others. Children respond positively to these reminders and settle quickly into the daily routines of the club.

p.2

Behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines Expected standard

Staff interact positively with children and model respectful behaviour consistently. They provide clear guidance and gentle reminders, where needed, helping children to manage their behaviour appropriately during activities, transitions and social routines. Staff use praise and encouragement throughout the day to reinforce positive behaviour and support children's confidence at the club. Children respond positively to recognition from staff, including certificates awarded at the end of the day to celebrate positive behaviour and participation.

p.2

Behaviour, attitudes and establishing routines Expected standard

Children move calmly between activities and routines and generally understand what is expected of them throughout the day. Overall, children behave in ways that support a safe, calm and enjoyable environment for all.

p.2

Children's welfare and wellbeing Expected standard

Children's care needs are met effectively throughout the day. Staff support children's wellbeing through familiar routines and positive interactions that help children feel safe and settled at the club. Children demonstrate an understanding of good hygiene practices. Staff provide reminders about handwashing, hydration and safe behaviour during activities and routines, helping children understand how to keep themselves healthy and safe.

p.2

Children's welfare and wellbeing Expected standard

Children benefit from regular opportunities for physical play and fresh air throughout the day. Staff organise activities thoughtfully, including during particularly warm weather, helping children remain comfortable and active throughout the session. Children also benefit from quieter opportunities to relax and socialise with friends during the day.

p.2

Children's welfare and wellbeing Expected standard

Snack and mealtime routines are calm and well supervised. Staff are aware of children's allergies, dietary needs and medical information and reinforce safer eating practices throughout the day. However, snack and mealtime routines do not yet consistently promote children's wellbeing and healthy lifestyles across the provision.

p.2

Children's welfare and wellbeing Expected standard

The environment is organised to support children's safety and wellbeing. Children confidently access resources and make choices about how they spend their time at the club. Staff supervise children effectively throughout the day, helping to ensure children remain safe and well supported.

p.2

Inclusion Expected standard

Leaders and staff promote an inclusive environment where children are welcomed warmly and supported to participate within the mixed-age provision. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are understood appropriately by staff, who know children well and respond sensitively to their individual needs.

p.3

Inclusion Expected standard

Leaders gather information from parents, carers and the host school to help staff understand children's individual needs, routines and support requirements before children attend the club. This helps staff provide continuity and reassurance throughout sessions. Staff adapt activities, interactions and levels of support to help children feel emotionally secure and included alongside their peers. Children who speak English as an additional language are supported through clear communication, modelling and reassurance during activities and routines.

p.3

Inclusion Expected standard

Children generally access activities confidently and enjoy opportunities to spend time with children of different ages throughout the day. Staff provide reassurance and encouragement to support children's participation in activities and routines. Children who require additional emotional support are comforted sensitively by familiar staff, helping them settle and engage within the group. However, opportunities for younger children to participate independently within mixed-age activities are not yet consistently promoted throughout the provision.

p.3

Inclusion Expected standard

Leaders and staff demonstrate a positive commitment to inclusion and work flexibly with families, the host school and external professionals where appropriate to help support children's attendance, participation and wellbeing within the club.

p.3

Leadership and governance Expected standard

Leaders demonstrate a clear understanding of the club. They identify strengths and take action to develop areas further. For example, leaders gather information from parents and the host school to understand children's needs and ensure staff provide appropriate support.

p.3

Leadership and governance Expected standard

Leaders oversee the day-to-day running of the club effectively. Staff are deployed appropriately to supervise children and support activities, maintaining a safe and organised environment where children understand routines and expectations. Staff report that they feel well supported by leaders. Leaders provide a full induction, and staff access mandatory training, which helps them to carry out their roles with confidence.

p.3

Leadership and governance Expected standard

Leaders know children and families well and maintain positive relationships with parents. Parents report that they are happy with the care provided and that their children enjoy attending. Leaders maintain regular communication with families and use information shared by parents to support children's wellbeing and individual needs throughout sessions.

p.3

Leadership and governance Expected standard

Leaders monitor the organisation of the provision and review routines, activities and staffing arrangements to help children remain settled and engaged throughout the day.
