p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder confidently explains the priorities for her curriculum. She emphasises the importance of developing children's communication and language. For example, the childminder describes how she will help children to develop their love of books with 'story spoons' that act as visual story prompts. In addition, she explains how she will devise targeted questions to promote children's understanding and retelling of familiar stories.

p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder has a robust understanding of how to support the needs of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). She also explains how she would like to strengthen her practice by researching strategies that support a wider range of needs of children with SEND. The childminder understands how to support children's ongoing development. For example, she explains she will do this through the use of daily assessment of children's progress and the setting of their next steps in learning.

p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder understands how to work collaboratively with specialist support agencies. She also builds positive relationships within her own team and communicates well with her co-childminders and assistants. This supports high levels of staff wellbeing and helps to manage the workload of all team members. The childminder knows the importance of developing the skills of her assistants through shared observations and daily feedback. She hopes to consistently embed these peer observations into her practice.

p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder values collaborative relationships with parents and carers. She explains how she communicates with families to extend and strengthen the support for children at home. For example, she provides ideas to support children's behaviour and healthy eating. The childminder talks passionately about the development of her cooking curriculum. She explains that this will help children to gain a deeper understanding of how to prepare and cook healthy food.

p.2

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder understands the importance of continually developing her skills. For example, she has developed her understanding of how to write the statutory progress for children aged between 2 and 3 years by working closely with her co-childminders. In addition, the childminder recognises the need to communicate with the local authority, so she is able to offer government-funded places for any child in her care.

About this inspection

We carried out this inspection under sections 49 and 50 of the Childcare Act 2006 on the quality and standards of provision that is registered on the Early Years Register. The registered person must ensure that this provision complies with the statutory framework for children's learning, development and care, known as the early years foundation stage.

About this inspection

There were no early years children present or on roll at the time of this inspection. The findings in this report are based on evidence gathered from discussions with the childminder and an inspection of the premises, equipment and any relevant documentation. When there are no early years children present, inspectors evaluate and grade only leadership and governance, as there is no reliable evidence from other evaluation areas through which to assess the impact on children.
