p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

Through discussion, the childminder effectively demonstrates that she has the knowledge, skills and understanding of her role and responsibilities to ensure compliance with the requirements of the early years foundation stage. The experienced childminder evaluates the provision she offers. She also obtains and values the views of parents, which helps her decide on what actions she needs to take to further enhance children's experiences. For instance, in the past, the childminder has used local amenities to enrich children's experiences of the community they live in, particularly around visiting the local woods, parks and library. She describes how she will support children to understand about the changing seasons, encourage them to be physically active to build their stamina and coordination, as well as develop a love for books to enhance their communication and language skills.

p.1

Leadership and governance Expected standard

The childminder is committed to improving her knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis. She explains how she would research early years topics to meet the needs of individual children, such as strengthening her knowledge of how to best understand and support children who face barriers in their learning and development. The childminder describes how she adapts her curriculum so that all children can benefit from specific planned activities and make steady progress, to be fully prepared for their next stage in education, such as developing their self-care skills.

The childminder has a secure understanding of the setting's context and is aware of additional funding available to children from disadvantaged families. She clearly explains how she will focus this funding to meet the individual learning needs and abilities of children who are eligible. The childminder talks about effective processes that she has in place to work in partnership with parents and any other settings children may attend. She intends to share information regularly with parents regarding children's care and education. For example, the childminder will send photographs to parents of how well children have progressed in their next steps, which are identified through her assessments and observations of children at play.
