p.1
Leadership and governance Expected standard
The childminder has a secure understanding of how to support children's learning. She has an ambitious curriculum in place for all children, including those who may face barriers to their learning. The childminder knows how to teach children a range of skills that will help them move on to the next stage of their education. She has a thorough knowledge of child development and knows how to use this to identify if there are any gaps in children's learning. The childminder intends to target her teaching to close gaps and help all children make progress in learning from their individual starting points.

The childminder demonstrates how she will promote healthy and active lifestyles. She has a secure understanding of implementing routines, such as handwashing, to support good hygiene. The childminder will encourage children to develop positive attitudes to oral health and making nutritious choices. She plans to teach children to recognise their feelings and emotions. The childminder plans to help children develop an understanding of rules and boundaries to keep them safe. The childminder knows to work in partnership with parents, professionals and other settings that children attend. She recognises this supports continuity for children's care and learning. The childminder understands how to keep her knowledge and skills current.
