p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, one child remains settled in the home. The child’s needs are well understood by staff. They offer sensitive, nurturing support to help the child grow, develop and feel safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is supported with their education. Although the child does not attend a formal educational provision, their learning is supported by a tutor who visits the home. Staff enhance the child’s learning through additional educational activities and consistently advocate on the child’s behalf to progress their education.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff recognise the importance of family relationships. They support and advocate for the child spending time with family who are important to them, in the child’s best interest. Staff work with professionals to consider creative ways for the child to understand family dynamics.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff are skilled at de-escalating incidents and helping the child feel settled and secure. They only hold the child as a last resort and ensure that they record in detail any interventions used. The manager provides evaluative and reflective oversight of any incidents and spends time with the child to explore their views. However, staff are not always given the opportunity to reflect individually on incidents involving holds, this is a missed opportunity to explore staff practice and ways to improve it.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff have developed a strong relationship with the child. The child talks openly to staff, knowing their views will be listened to. Staff help the child to develop safe and effective strategies to manage their emotions.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child is educated to understand rules and expectations. The staff focus on positive, nurturing and supportive parenting. When consequences are used, these are proportionate, and the child is fully involved in the discussion to help them understand the reasons for the consequence.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When allegations are made, appropriate action is taken to safeguard the child. However, leaders and managers do not always inform the regulator as required.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Risk assessments are clear, relevant and regularly reviewed. They consider all known and potential risks to the child, identify factors that may increase vulnerability, and set out specific, proportionate strategies to reduce and manage risks. Staff use these assessments effectively to keep the child safe and to promote their welfare.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There is a consistent manager overseeing the home. The manager is currently applying to be registered with Ofsted. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2805759 3 The manager ensures that staff receive regular supervision. Supervision is an opportunity to reflect on practice, identify areas for improvement, and develop ways to enhance the care provided to the child. The manager is clear with staff about expectations, challenges practice effectively and ensures that staff have the knowledge and skills to provide safe care for children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There are clear systems in place to monitor and review the quality of care provided to the child. Leaders and managers review a range of interventions and all incidents to identify patterns in the child’s behaviour or in staff practice. Action plans are clear and have concise timeframes to measure progress. Patterns of concern can be quickly identified and addressed.
