p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2832297 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the previous inspection, no children have moved into or out of the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Leaders and managers have reflected on the shortfalls identified at the last inspection. Monitoring and auditing systems have been reviewed and strengthened. As a result, the manager’s oversight of the home has improved.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have made good progress since the previous inspection. They receive appropriate support with their health needs and emotional wellbeing. There is effective liaison with external professionals to promote consistency across settings, and both children continue to make progress in their education.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Reflective team meetings provide opportunities to review past incidents and embed learning into practice. Although incidents have been rare since the last inspection, this approach helps staff retain and develop the skills needed to respond effectively should issues arise.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff have received additional training specific to the needs of the children currently living at the home, as well as in preparation for a child due to move in. All staff have now completed their mandatory training, and the provider has implemented a year ‑ long training plan to deliver new and refresher courses. This ensures that training needs are consistently met.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff now receive regular, reflective supervision that supports their day ‑ to ‑ day practice. Staff say they enjoy working at the home and feel well supported. A newly appointed deputy manager has settled well into their role and has made a positive contribution to the leadership team.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There has been progress in record ‑ keeping since the previous inspection. However, further improvement is still required. Some documents lack sufficient detail and have not been updated to reflect recent information.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children know how to make a complaint and receive support from staff during the process. The manager usually takes appropriate action in response to concerns raised by children. However, on one occasion, a concern raised by a child regarding staff conduct was not followed up appropriately.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Three requirements raised at the previous inspection have been met. One recommendation has been partially met and has therefore been restated. One new recommendation has also been raised. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2832297 3

Recommendations

 The registered person should ensure that staff are familiar with the home’s policies on record-keeping and understand the importance of careful, objective and clear recording. Information about the child must always be recorded in a way that will be helpful to the child. (‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’, page 62, paragraph 14.4)  The registered person should ensure that staff encourage children to express any concerns about their care or other matters as soon as they arise. This specifically relates to the registered person ensuring that any concerns raised by a child are recorded, followed up and addressed appropriately.
