Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Since the last inspection, 2 children have moved out of the home and 2 children have moved in. At the time of the inspection, 2 children were living at the home. One child was spoken to briefly, and the inspector spent time with the other child.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home has a warm cottage feel and a cosy atmosphere that reflects a family home. The children are supported to personalise their bedrooms and contribute their ideas to development in the home. The home has a large garden, and the children are encouraged to grow their own fruit and vegetables in the greenhouse in the summer. This promotes self-esteem and accomplishment. Staff take pride in maintaining the appearance of the home and providing a positive environment for the children.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children's moves into and out of the home are well supported by staff. One professional said staff managed a child's move into the home 'beautifully well'. Staff honour children's time spent living at the home with memory books and celebrations. For one child, staff came together to say goodbye and share funny memories they had experienced together. Children often maintain contact with staff after moving out, showing the meaningful relationships that staff have developed. Through no fault of staff, one child moved out of the home suddenly. Staff supported the child to return and celebrate their time together. This allowed everyone the opportunity to say goodbye in a positive way.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The staff encourage the children to maintain good health and wellbeing. The in-house clinical team helps staff support the children through a bespoke clinical service. This ensures that staff are able to meet children's individual physical and mental health needs.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff support the children with their education. They advocate for the children to ensure that education provisions are best suited to the child. Consequently, most children make good progress in their engagement in education and learning. Staff supported one child who had previously struggled with education to move on from the home with qualifications. This supported the child to progress with any future learning opportunities and career aspirations. Partner professionals described staff as proactive, child focused and invested in children's education and wellbeing.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff support the children to develop interests and hobbies. Children are offered the opportunity to take part in activities of their choice and have new experiences. They have taken part in summer camps and basketball and cadet groups. Staff continually explore new opportunities for children in line with their interests.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff ensure that the children are well supported to maintain relationships with the people who are important to them. One parent shared that they feel well supported and said that staff are doing an 'amazing job'. Inspection report for children's home: SC471153 4 Staff monitor children's progress creatively. The manager created a presentation for one child to help them explore and make decisions on further education options. Staff track progress of children using independence development records and progress snapshots, which help children to set goals and celebrate achievements. This has enabled children to develop independence and feel proud of their progress.

Staff understand risk and children's individual vulnerabilities well. They take appropriate action to help children keep safe. Staff are guided by detailed, clear and regularly reviewed risk management plans.

p.4

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

There have been no incidents of physical restraint, and staff are clear that these would only be used as a last resort. Children are encouraged to reflect on situations and think about how they and staff can better manage situations in the future. Children are praised and rewarded for positive behaviours. Any rewards given are tailored to their individual likes and interests. The manager has incorporated 'Positive Pickles'. Staff and children select these positive affirmations from a jar when having a difficult time or require positivity. This supports a positive mindset and energy throughout the home.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff are attentive and caring. They provide the children with thoughtful care and support when concerns are identified. The staff build meaningful relationships with the children. Consequently, children trust the staff and talk to them about difficult experiences and situations. One child was able to tell staff they felt anxious and identify ways to manage this with support. Staff supported one child to attend hospital when they expressed thoughts of hurting themselves.

p.4

Staff demonstrate sound knowledge of safeguarding. They know what to do and how to raise any concerns about the welfare of children or staff practice. This helps to keep children safe. When concerns have arisen in respect of staff practice, managers have taken appropriate steps to manage this and ensure that children's safety is paramount.
