p.1
improvement to be good
Children do not always move into the home in a well-planned way. The lack of thorough assessments by the manager when two children moved in contributed to staff being unable to keep children safe. Two serious incidents involving different children resulted in their placements ending in an unplanned way. This does not ensure that children had a positive experience of living in this home and have had further disruption in their lives.
p.2
improvement to be good
The child receives care from a committed staff team. They are supported to build trusting relationships with staff, who care about them. This helps the child to develop a sense of belonging which underpins the progress they make.
p.2
improvement to be good
The child attends an educational setting appropriate to her needs and abilities. Staff work in partnership with education departments and other relevant professionals. This ensures that the child has every opportunity to enhance their academic ability and reach their full potential.
p.2
improvement to be good
The child’s health needs are met well. The child is registered with health professionals and appointments are made as necessary. Medication is stored safely, and records are maintained on the administration of medication.

improvement to be good
Managers have not given enough consideration to children’s vulnerabilities and presenting risks when agreeing to new placements. This has caused bullying in the home, and children spending time in each other’s bedrooms during the night without staff knowledge. Managers took immediate action in response to these incidents which reduced the risk of further harm, however, there remains uncertainty over how this was able to happen and the risk this presented.
p.2
improvement to be good
The manager and staff comply with locally agreed protocols when the child goes missing. However, the managers oversight and monitoring on missing episodes does not Inspection report children's home: 2836272 3 evaluate staff practice. This is a missed opportunity to review staff practice and improve the strategies in place to protect the child from going missing again.
p.2
improvement to be good
Staff are skilled in deescalation techniques when the child experiences difficult emotions. As a result, since the last inspection, staff have not needed to hold the child to ensure their safety or the safety of others.
p.3
improvement to be good
Recruitment of new staff to the home is safe. Staff are vetted and assessed as suitable before any appointment is confirmed. These procedures promote the child’s safety by helping to prevent unsuitable adults from working with them.
p.3
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
The home is led by a suitably experienced registered manager he is ambitious to implement change and is child focused.
p.3
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
Managers’ oversight of the home and the child’s care requires strengthening. There is a lack of analysis following missing incidents. This limits the ability of the manager to identify patterns and trends to make improvements in the home.
p.3
