p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2826857 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The child living in the home at the time of the last inspection has since moved on. This was in line with the child’s wishes and feelings and the placing authority’s’ plan. The home continues to be a safe and welcoming environment. A significant amount of work has been completed to upgrade the home environment and repair previous damage.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Education is encouraged by staff who persevere when children are reluctant to take part. Children are supported to attend health appointments and specialist referrals are made when required. Staff seek medical advice when children are involved in substance misuse and ensure that they receive medical attention.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

In most cases, staff manage incidents in accordance with their training and company procedures. Physical intervention is only used as a last resort to keep children and others safe. When this is used, it is proportionate and necessary and clear recording of the intervention are completed.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When children are missing from home staff look for them to ensure their return at the earliest opportunity. However, staff do not always report children missing from home to the police, in accordance with their plans.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has made some improvements to the monitoring and oversight of the home and new tools have been put in place to support this. However, these are not yet fully embedded in practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager does not always identify shortfalls in staff practice or take action to address these. As a result, opportunities to improve staff practice are sometimes missed.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The staff team is stable, staff members are experienced and have a recognised childcare qualification. The manager has identified where there are gaps in staff training and has begun to address these. Staff are being upskilled in areas where shortfalls in practice and knowledge have been identified. The staff team have been given time to reflect and re-group before another child moves into the home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager cultivates strong working relationships with professionals and family members. When safeguarding issues arise the manager is proactive in involving the team around the child to find solutions to minimise risks. Assurance inspection report for children's home: 2826857 3
