p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2737844 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The child who lived in the home at the time of the last inspection continues to live here. They have formed and sustained positive relationships with staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff support the child’s health and wellbeing through regular physical activity and a balanced and nutritious diet. When the child is struggling to manage their emotions, there is ongoing support available from the organisation’s therapist.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has ensured that the child can access education at home through a tutor, supporting their learning and promoting independence through additional learning opportunities. The manager is working with educational professionals and the placing authority to identify a suitable provision that will meet the child’s needs.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The child is encouraged to share their views and wishes as well as discussing plans, activities and meal planning for the week ahead. As a result, the child feels listened to and is actively engaged in decisions that shape their daily lives.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When the child goes out with friends, staff drop them off and collect them, actively checking who they are spending time with as well are completing welfare checks. These measures have reduced incidents of the child going missing and encourages them to make safer choices. There has only been one missing-from-home episode since the last inspection. Staff are proactive in trying to locate the child and report them missing to the relevant agencies, including the police. In addition, there is clear management oversight relating to actions taken and staff practice.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff engage the child in regular age-appropriate discussions to support their understanding of risk, promote safer online behaviours and support healthy relationships. However, on occasion, the language within records does not reflect the supportive nature of this work.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff have access to training, and the manager ensures that they are equipped to meet any emerging needs of the child. However, not all staff have achieved their qualification within the required time frame.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has strengthened supervision sessions, giving staff more opportunities to explore the child’s needs and reflect on practice. In addition, team meetings provide another platform to ensure that risks are identified and understood and that safeguarding processes are consistently followed.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Some of the requirements raised at the last inspection have been met. Two new recommendations have been made. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2737844 3
