Staff help children to develop positive and trusting relationships. This creates a nurturing living environment where children feel valued and confident in sharing their views, wishes and feelings. Staff encourage children to participate in meetings with external professionals. A social worker shared that the manager and staff are ‘amazing’ in supporting children.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children are supported to visit their families and enjoy celebrations and holidays. One family member said that staff are ‘brilliant’ in their communication. Staff understand how to support children when they experience a family bereavement. As a result, children feel comfortable sharing their feelings. Staff help children to spend time with friends in the community. This encourages children’s independence and confidence.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Children’s equality, diversity and inclusion needs are understood and promoted. Staff encourage children to develop their personal interests and to learn about their wider community. Staff help children to express their views when they do not agree with their support plans. As a result, children receive personalised care and are confident in sharing their views.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home’s environment is comfortable and nurturing for children. There are framed photos of the child living at the home in place in the communal areas. Staff support children to design their bedrooms and to choose furnishings for their home. The child said that they chose the rugs and pictures and was involved in choosing the colours for the home’s redecoration. This inclusive approach helps children to feel valued and respected.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff support children to attend school. When children experience difficulties in school, the manager and staff liaise effectively with education professionals. However, when children experience barriers to accessing full-time education, the manager and staff are not consistent in ensuring that children receive bespoke support. As a result, children do not always have individual education plans in place to meet their needs.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

The manager and staff are supported by a psychologist to understand children’s needs. Staff help children to explore their needs and to reflect on any risks. This nurturing and respectful approach enables children to contribute to their support plans. Children have detailed plans that are regularly reviewed and provide effective guidance for staff to follow. As a result, children receive safe care that is thoughtfully planned and reviewed.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Children rarely go missing from their home. Staff help children to explore the reasons for going missing and to understand the risks in the community. The manager is proactive in arranging specialist support for children when this is required. A social worker and Inspection report children's home: 2675339 4 community police officer shared that staff understand children’s needs and work in partnership with external professionals to address these. This inclusive approach ensures that children understand the roles of external professionals in supporting them.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

The manager sensitively explores complaints by children. This helps children to feel listened to and creates an inclusive and respectful living environment. The manager arranges independent advocates for children when external professionals are not responding to their questions and complaints. As a result, children feel valued and their views, wishes and feelings are understood.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff are confident in supporting children’s online safety. Staff establish positive routines for children’s internet use and help children to understand the risks. The manager and staff understand the influences on children by their peers. For example, the child is being supported to learn about the risks of vaping and the impact of this on their health. As a result, children are safer and feel confident in the adults supporting them.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff understand how to use physical interventions safely. Staff help children to understand the reasons why this type of intervention is required to keep them safe. However, staff are not always spoken to following incidents or provided with opportunities to reflect and learn. The manager recognises this area for development and is taking action to address the shortfall.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Since the last inspection, a new manager has been appointed and has registered with Ofsted. The manager and staff team are committed to providing children with a nurturing and safe living environment. External professionals speak positively about the partnership working and the support that children are receiving.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Leaders and managers understand and apply safe recruitment practice. Staff receive a comprehensive induction and training programme and are provided with reflective supervision and mentoring. The manager is vigilant in addressing any concerns regarding staff practice. This ensures that children are cared for by suitable adults who have the necessary skills to support them.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The manager and staff team value the clinical support from the home’s psychologist. This helps to develop reflective practice and improve the experiences and progress of children. When children move out, leaders and managers are proactive in reviewing the child’s experiences of living in the home. As a result, there is a strong focus on developing a skilled and qualified staff team.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

Effective monitoring systems are in place to review the experiences and progress of children and staff practice. The manager has devised a tracker to monitor children’s wishes and feelings. This ensures that children’s views are responded to and they are supported to achieve their aspirations. However, children’s support and risk plans do not always include guidance from the psychologist. Inspection report children's home: 2675339 5
