the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457308 2
p.1
Findings from the inspection
The assurance inspection was completed due to a child suffering significant harm in relation to child sexual exploitation risks. We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The staff team was aware of the presenting risks for one child and had shared these concerns with partner agencies. The registered manager advocates for meetings with partner agencies to share concerns, and safeguarding concerns have been reported appropriately.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The home benefits from a qualified and experienced registered manager and management team who are knowledgeable about the strengths and weaknesses of the service. The managers are aware of and accepting of shortfalls and keen to take feedback on board to improve practice. The registered manager is actively challenging and advocating for children. Staffing is stable and children benefit from a consistent staff team supporting them.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Incidents of going missing from care are well responded to, and staff actively search for children when they are missing. There is good multi-agency working in relation to safeguarding and risk assessments reflect the needs and risks of the children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children have a positive experience of the home. Two children spoke positively about their experiences in the home and felt cared for by the staff. The staff team advocates for children’s education and staff are supporting one child to reintegrate into school on a phased return. Children have clear care plans in place and the staff team supports arrangements for transitions.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children are well supported by the staff team. Staff access support from their clinical lead to ascertain resources to best support the needs of children. Half of the staff team have had specific bereavement training to support a child following a bereavement. Regular key-work sessions are completed with children that are in response to their specific risks. These sessions are both planned and unplanned. The staff team regularly liaises with partner agencies to share information and ascertain additional support for children as needed.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff have regular supervision, although the registered manager identifies that there are some gaps. The staff also have access to clinical support from the clinical lead and benefit from a good training package. Where training gaps are identified, appropriate training courses have been organised. The core staff team has completed training to meet the specific needs of the children the staff care for. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457308 3 There is one incident deemed serious that the registered manager did not notify the regulator about. This meant that the regulator did not have the opportunity to have effective oversight of escalating risks.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There were 2 recommendations made in the last full inspection. One of these recommendations was not reviewed and one was not met. The recommendations have therefore been reinstated. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC457308 4
