p.2
Findings from the inspection
Both children experienced well planned transitions when they moved into the home. Before each move, the manager carefully considered the children’s needs alongside the staff’s team’s skills and experience. They also liaised with relevant professionals. Children were provided with a children’s guide and, where possible, they met the staff team before they moved in. These actions help children to settle quickly and feel safe.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms, which helps them develop a sense of ownership and belonging. Staff maintain a clean and tidy home environment, which contributes to a welcoming atmosphere. However, when damage occurs within the home, repairs are not always completed promptly. This does not consistently promote a high ‑ quality living environment for children.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager and staff understand the importance of children’s education. Children who are not attending formal education are provided with learning support from a learning coach sourced by the provider. One child is currently interested in building a go-kart and staff have incorporated this project into their learning. This approach helps maintain and develop the child’s skills while formal education arrangements are being sought.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager maintains appropriate oversight of incidents and ensures that children are only held when necessary to keep them safe. They review incident records and provide evaluations that identify actions to support learning and improvement. Children are spoken to after incidents to help them reflect and share their views. However, the manager does not ensure that staff receive individual debriefs following incidents. As a result, staff do not always have the opportunity to explore their concerns, reflect on their practice or consider alternative strategies to reduce the need for physical intervention in the future.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff understand the action to take when children go missing from home. They are proactive in try to locate children, including searching local areas and contacting relevant family and friends. When children return, staff are curious about their well- being and talk to them about where they have been. Information is appropriately shared with professionals and risk assessments are reviewed to ensure that they contain the most current details.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children are educated about risk. Staff take immediate action to prevent fires from starting. Staff completed room searches to remove any items that could be used to start a fire. Staff spend time with children explaining the risks and consequences of fire and they made referrals to external agencies, such as the fire service, to further support children’s understanding of fire-related risks Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2853513 3 The manager and staff have a clear understanding of children’s individual needs and risks. They spend time with children and encourage them to share their views. When children make requests or raise concerns, staff listen and engage with them to ensure that their voices are heard.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There has been some unforeseen instability within the staff team since the home opened, due to personal reasons unrelated to the home. The manager has taken swift action to address these staffing issues, including recruiting new staff members. Any gaps in the staff rota are covered by staff from within the organisation and agency staff are not used. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2853513 4
