p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
Information about this children’s home
This privately run home offers care for up to 4 children who have social and emotional needs.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
The registered manager left in January 2026.
p.1
Information about this children’s home
There were 2 children living at the home at the time of this monitoring visit.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of the visit was to review the safety, consistency and quality of care provided to the children currently living at the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At the home’s last full inspection, in June 2025, it was judged good overall, with requires improvement in how well children and young people are helped and protected. This monitoring visit was undertaken in response to a complaint raised by one of the children living in the home.
p.1
This monitoring visit
At this monitoring visit, several weaknesses in safeguarding practice, staff consistency and the oversight of leaders and managers were identified.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Both children living at the home spoke with the inspector. One child does not feel safe at the home. She acknowledged that things have been calmer recently but continues to spend most of her time in her bedroom.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Relationships between this child and staff are limited. Although the child has made it clear how she prefers to engage with staff, the team has not developed sufficiently attuned, child-centred or responsive relationships with her. Inspection report for children's home - monitoring visit: SC456330 2 The stability of staffing has been significantly disrupted. The registered manager, deputy manager and several staff have left the home. This lack of continuity has directly affected both children, particularly one child who relies heavily on predictability and routine due to her autism.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Although there has been a short period of stability in the children’s relationship with each other, concerns remain about the home’s overall capacity to meet both children’s needs safely and consistently. Staff do not yet have sufficient training in autism to support children effectively.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff practice in relation to safeguarding remains inconsistent. Updated risk assessments and plans are not being consistently understood or followed by staff. Team meetings have not routinely included discussion or application of the home’s therapeutic model. This limits staff’s ability to deliver consistent, informed care.
p.2
This monitoring visit
One child has made numerous complaints to staff, including about bullying, some of which are recorded in the daily logs. However, there is no evidence that these concerns have been escalated, recorded or addressed by the management team.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Some records are unclear or incomplete, and daily records contained examples of inappropriate or inappropriate language. These shortfalls undermine the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements and do not support children’s emotional safety or wellbeing.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Leadership and management have been weakened by staffing changes. The departure of the home’s management team has had a significant impact on the home’s capacity to provide consistent oversight. Leaders and managers are aware of the concerns identified and have taken initial steps to address them. These include plans to embed discussion of the home’s therapeutic model. Recruitment of a new registered manager is being actively progressed. In the interim, management oversight is being provided by a deputy manager from a sister home. While these actions are positive, it is too early to determine their impact.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Two of the previous requirements have been restated and three further requirements have been raised.
