Information about this children’s home
A new manager is in post. They have not yet applied to register with Ofsted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
An assurance inspection was carried out on 27 November 2025. The inspection found serious and widespread concerns in relation to the leadership and management of the home, the protection of children and how children are supported to develop positive relationships. Consequently, compliance notices were issued under regulation 11, regulation 12 and regulation 13. In addition, a notice restricting the accommodation of the home was issued. The purpose of this monitoring visit was to determine the progress leaders and managers had made to address the concerns outlined in the compliance notices.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Leaders have reflected on the outcome of the assurance inspection. They accept that changes and improvements are required to ensure that children will be provided with the level of care that they require when the home reopens. They have formulated an improvement plan that focuses on the development of a new management and staff team. In addition, leaders are recruiting to the senior leadership team, with the aim of providing a wider support system. However, actions required to meet the compliance notices have not been completed.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The journey of improvement has commenced. However, changes and developments are in their infancy. The newly recruited staff team, including the manager, lacks Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2719389 2 experience of working in residential children’s homes. The ability of the team to meet the needs of children who will live in the home is currently untested. Training to support staff to develop essential skills and knowledge through induction training, spending time in other homes and completing assessment-type tasks and scenarios, is underway but has not been completed.
p.1
This monitoring visit
As a measure to try and prevent similar events in the future, leaders and managers have made changes to the process of deciding whether the home is right for a child. These changes plan to give managers more say in the process. They also propose to amend the home’s statement of purpose with the aim of admitting children who are deemed to be lower risk. However, a full review of practice and the concerns that led to a deterioration in the quality of care and the subsequent restriction of accommodation has not been completed. This does not help leaders and managers to identify what went wrong and the actions needed to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers have documented their oversight of incidents that occurred in the home. This is not critically reflective and does not consider the quality of staff practice, the care provided to the child or any learning that might be required to improve practice.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff spoke to the previous child about risks and their future. However, they have shown limited curiosity into the child’s experiences of the care provided to them. Reflective conversations following incidents or behaviours of concern have not taken place. This does not help children to develop their awareness of the impact and repercussions of their behaviours.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Clear safety planning implemented to keep the previous child safe was not followed by staff on two occasions. One of these occasions led to the child experiencing serious repercussions. Leaders and managers have appropriately addressed concerns about staff practice within practice reviews.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Work to complete repairs to the home has been completed. Further work is needed to ensure that the environment is suitable for children to live in.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Due to the nature of this inspection, requirements and recommendations from the full inspection and assurance inspection were not considered during this inspection. These requirements and recommendations remain in place. Inspection report for children’s home - monitoring visit: 2719389 3
