p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC430239 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, one child has moved out of the home, and one child has moved in. Children have experienced well-planned moves. Staff and the manager work closely with children to ensure that their voices are heard and that they are involved in discussions about their care.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children have positive relationships with the manager, and relationships with staff have improved. Staff are knowledgeable about children’s needs and how to support them. One child said, ‘Things have been better.’

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s health needs are met. Staff now speak to children about the dangers of vaping and encourage them to make safer choices. Staff identify that children respond well to incentives and use these to encourage attendance at routine health appointments.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children access education provisions that are tailored to their needs. When there are barriers to children’s learning, staff work with children to help them understand the value and importance of education.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Care plans and risk assessments are in place to support the safe care of children. However, the manager has not ensured that key documents have been received from other professionals involved in children’s care, such as personal education plans and health assessments.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There are now clear management arrangements in place. The manager is experienced and has good insight into the children’s needs and experiences. Staff say the manager is present and supportive. One staff member said, ‘I could go to her if I was worried about anything.’

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There is a consistent staff team. Any gaps in the rota are covered by the staff team and regular bank staff. Staff receive supervision in line with the home’s statement of purpose, and team meetings take place monthly. As a result, children receive continuity of care, and staff feel supported.

p.2
