p.3
improvement to be good
The child has remained living in the home since the last inspection. However, decisions have been made by the local authority for the child to move on. Plans are ongoing to find an alternative home to meet the child’s needs.
p.4
improvement to be good
Some improvements have been made in the staff’s relationships with the child living in the home. The child is now spending more periods of time out of their bedroom and engaging in some activities. The child spoke warmly about some of the team and the activities they enjoy spending time doing together.
p.4
improvement to be good
Education for the child has not been made a priority. The child is not currently engaging with the amount of education that they are entitled to. This has been challenged and escalated by the director, with emails and meetings with the local authority. However, this has been significantly delayed, and appropriate arrangements are not yet in place.
p.4
improvement to be good
There have been some improvements in staff taking action to address the child’s health needs, and the child has attended emergency health appointments. However, routine appointments have been delayed, and some remain outstanding. Plans are now in place to provide guidance to staff on how to support the child’s specific needs.
p.4
improvement to be good
Regular family time has been introduced for the child, in line with their care plan. This has been supported by the staff, and they are building relationships with the child’s family members. There have been changes to the documentation used in the home. However, the quality of recording in the child’s plans is not consistent. There is limited evidence of the child’s voice throughout the records. This limits the opportunity to highlight the child’s views and feelings about the care that they are receiving.
p.4
improvement to be good
The child has remained settled in the home since the last inspection. Staff understand the child’s needs and risks and have the skills to manage them. However, staff have not undertaken their qualifications within the required timescales.
p.4
improvement to be good
Risk assessments are now in place to provide staff with guidance on how to meet the child’s needs and keep them safe. However, records did not demonstrate that all staff have read and understood them. The leadership team has identified these shortfalls, and this has been addressed in individual supervision sessions. Inspection report for children’s home: 2744473 5 The leadership team has completed an in-depth audit of the home, which identified a number of shortfalls. Action has been taken to implement changes to the safeguarding policies and procedures. However, these are not yet embedded into practice.
p.4
improvement to be good
Staff do not always ensure that prohibited items in the home are secured safely. On one occasion, the child was able to take the home’s keys and locked themselves in their bedroom. Staff spoke with the child following the incident to reflect on the incident and their behaviour.
p.5
improvement to be good
Complaints from the child are addressed by leaders. The child is updated on any outcomes following concerns being raised. Leaders take appropriate action following whistleblowing complaints against staff or managers working in the home.
p.5
improvement to be good
Behaviour management remains inconsistent. Not all staff implement or maintain consistent boundaries and routines in the home. Managers are aware of this and have addressed it in team meetings.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
There is no registered manager in post. A new manager has been recruited and was due to start in the role following this inspection. In the interim, the home has been managed by the newly recruited responsible individual and director.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
Shortfalls in practice remain. Leaders have identified the issues and have implemented plans in place to address them. However, these are not yet fully embedded into practice.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
Oversight of the home has improved in some areas. All incidents for the child, including historical incidents, have been reviewed by leaders. This helps them to understand the child’s risks and behaviours.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
Staff have not always felt supported by the management team. There has been limited supervision for staff, and team meetings have not taken place. There have been new supervision schedules created, and team meetings will be taking place fortnightly going forward.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
There are regular visits completed to the home by an independent visitor. However, the quality of these is poor. Not all reports have been provided to the regulator, and the reports provided have lacked evaluation and clear actions. The provider has recognised this, and a new independent visitor has been identified.
p.5
The effectiveness of leaders and managers: requires improvement to be good
The provider has not completed a review of the quality of care. There has been no report sent to Ofsted since the home was registered. This lack of reflection on practice means that leaders and managers do not have the information they need to understand the child’s experiences and progress. Inspection report for children’s home: 2744473 6 The statement of purpose for the home has not been updated. Additionally, the statement of purpose does not provide information about the skills and experience of staff. As a result, it is unclear if staff have the required skills and experience to meet the needs of the child. Inspection report for children’s home: 2744473 7
