p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff talk about the child with genuine warmth and affection, and they value the child for who they are. Staff are committed to ensuring that the child is accepted, offered stability and encouraged to succeed. The child shared their views with the inspector and said of staff, ‘They took time to get to know me as an individual rather than treating me as just another young person in care.’

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff have excellent relationships with parents. One parent describes the team like ‘family’ and feels they ‘co-parent’ well together. Staff support the child to see their family regularly. This promotes the child’s feelings of identity and belonging.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The child attends school full time, having previously been out of education for a significant period. The manager is a strong advocate and ensures that the child’s views and wishes are heard. They persisted in identifying an educational provision for the child and worked effectively with professionals to ensure that this was progressed in a timely manner.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The child aspires for their future. Staff support the child to explore their interests and develop the skills to help them achieve their goals. The child is a skilled baker, and this passion is nurtured and supported by staff.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Staff ensure that the child’s health needs are met. Staff help the child to manage their feelings of anxiety around attending appointments to ensure that they receive the appropriate treatment.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home is modern, and the child’s bedroom is personalised to their taste. However, not all areas of the home are well maintained, and action is required to ensure that the child has a safe and clean home environment.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff know the child well and understand their risks. Staff talk to the child regularly about risks and support the child to understand how to stay safe. Staff use additional resources to develop their own and the child’s knowledge in relevant areas.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff complete relevant training to provide them with the skills and knowledge to keep the child safe. Leaders and managers work closely with in-house clinicians to provide staff with a broader understanding of how to better meet the child’s needs.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Incidents are managed well, and staff implement good de-escalation skills and strategies, which means that there has been no need to hold the child to keep them safe. Relationships between the child and staff are generally positive, and this helps to ensure that incidents do not escalate. Inspection report for children’s home: 2661512 4 Staff respond effectively when the child goes missing from home. Staff are proactive and spend time looking for children. They work flexibly to meet the needs of the child and to promote their safety during incidents.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Risk management plans are reviewed regularly and are specific to the child. They provide staff with helpful strategies to keep the child safe. However, some information contained in plans is outdated and inaccurate. Additionally, consequence records do not contain all the necessary information. This has not impacted on the care of the child.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Leaders and managers do not always notify Ofsted of serious incidents. This has not impacted on children; however, it limits the regulator’s oversight of safeguarding practice at the home.

p.4

good

The home is managed by a manager and deputy manager. The manager is tenacious and dedicated to her role. She knows the child well, and they share a good relationship. However, the manager is not yet registered with Ofsted, and there has been no registered manager in post since June 2023.

p.4

good

Leaders and managers are present at the home and ensure that they spend time with both the staff and the child. The managers have a good understanding of daily activities, events and incidents.

p.4

good

Staff say they are supported in their roles and teamwork is strong. Supervisions and team meetings take place regularly, which provide staff with time to reflect on the child’s progress, staff practice and areas for development.

p.4

good

Leaders and managers promote research-based practice to support staff to meet the child’s needs. Managers are proactive in applying learning and strategies from these resources. Inspection report for children’s home: 2661512 5
