Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
One child present in the home at the last inspection remains living in the home. They chose not to speak to the inspector. One child has been supported to move out in a child-centred and managed way in accordance with their plan for independence.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Since the last inspection, the child has begun to attend a local education provision. This has enabled them to make friends in the local area, which has aided their social development. The child has also been supported by staff to maintain their familial relationships in a safe and managed way.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The child currently living in the home has formed positive relationships with staff. Staff know their needs and vulnerabilities well. They support the child in a personalised way that meets their needs. Staff show a good understanding of the underlying reasons for the child’s behaviour and they work therapeutically.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There has been an improvement in safeguarding procedures in the home. There are now stringent protocols in place to prevent access to the company vehicle. The child’s time in the community is managed safely, with regular checks being completed by staff.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
There have been a number of missing-from-home episodes during this period. Staff follow procedures and search for children diligently. They also work proactively with other safeguarding agencies to try and mitigate risks. Children are collected when they are ready to return home and the manager ensures that independent return home interviews are completed.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The staff team is stable and there is little use of staff from other homes, which ensures consistency for the child. The manager ensures that staff have the skills and experience to meet the child’s needs. The manager ensures that safe recruitment practices are followed for all new staff.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff and the manager work effectively with other professionals. They advocate for the child to ensure that their voice is heard. However, the most recent care plan for the child has not been received from the placing authority. This has not been challenged in a timely manner and does not ensure that staff are fully working in accordance with the child’s plan. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2771219 3
