Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2812913 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Three children have moved into the home since the last full inspection. The manager spoke to all relevant professionals before each child moved in to ensure that a wide range of information was gathered about their needs. As a result, children have experienced well-planned moves and are building caring and trusting relationships with staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The staff make good use of key-work sessions to explore children’s emotions and behaviour. These sessions have improved children’s awareness about how to stay safe online and positive relationships.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff encourage children to attend full-time education. Recently, the manager has worked closely with education colleagues to challenge an education provider effectively to ensure that one child can return to full-time education, which supports their continued learning and attainment.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Risk assessments are clear and regularly reviewed. These include all children’s known risks and give staff a good understanding of the children. When room searches are necessary, they are carried out in a sensitive way.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has taken appropriate action when there have been concerns about staff practice, and allegations have been managed in a timely manner. Leaders carry out full investigations and liaise with local authority designated officers where required.

Findings from the inspection

The manager ensures that there are robust checks in place so that children receive the correct dose of medication. Medication is safely stored, and records are detailed. When there are queries, staff seek advice from all relevant healthcare professionals.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has monitoring systems in place, which identify where improvements can be made. Complaints are well managed and discussed thoroughly with the children in meaningful conversation records to keep them fully involved and updated.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There have been some changes in staffing since the last inspection. Children are supported by a nurturing team of staff who know them well. Communication between staff is effective. There are clear handovers and regular team meetings, ensuring that all children’s needs are fully understood.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, there has been one serious incident the regulator was not notified of in a timely way. A requirement has been raised to address this.
