Staff create a nurturing family home environment for the children. Children were seen smiling, laughing, receiving and giving hugs. Children develop positive and trusting relationships with staff, who ensure that their emotional and developmental needs are met. As a result, children can share anything with staff, knowing that they will not be judged. Photos of the children and staff are proudly displayed around the home, alongside drawings and crafts that children have made.

p.3

Children have positive experiences and make exceptional progress from their starting points. Staff remind children that they are loved, and positive affirmations are used as part of everyday language. Children enjoy spending time with staff and experience stability.

p.3

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children make remarkable progress with their education. They have positive attitudes about school and perform well, enjoying an individualised educational programme. One child, who has been out of education for a year, enjoys having a full-time timetable. One child, who has left school, is being supported in moving on to their new chapter of either training or work. School professionals speak highly of the team and the manager, stating, ‘I have no concerns at all. It is an absolute pleasure working alongside the manager.’

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Children are healthy, and staff encourage them to make positive choices around diet, hygiene and fitness. Children take pride in helping to plan, prepare and cook with staff. When sensitive health issues arise, staff offer gentle, caring support that prioritises children’s health and wellbeing. They create a safe and reassuring environment.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Staff allow the children to develop their individual interests and identities. This includes enjoying activities such as go-karting, adventure parks and trampolining. Staff create memorabilia of these events for children to keep and have fond memories of their time at the home. Staff speak and write about children’s achievements and experiences with pride and compassion.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: outstanding

Furthermore, staff provide children with new opportunities that bring joy and excitement to their lives. These include holidays, days out and help with charity events. Children are involved in the planning and execution of these events to raise money for the home’s nominated charity of the year. Children have the enjoyment of giving and sharing gifts, which they enjoy participating in. Inspection report for children’s home: 1249183 4 Staff help children to build and maintain meaningful relationships with those who are important to them. This includes family members and friends, with staff advocating for more time with them when appropriate and meaningful to the children.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Children said that they feel safe living at the home and that they know the staff care for them and will always keep them safe. Children can recognise their own risks and when they have reduced. For example, children make comments about how well they have done because they no longer feel the need to go missing from home. This is largely due to the openness of the relationships that the children have with staff.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff have an exceptionally good understanding of the children’s needs and early experiences and the risks that affect them. Care plans and risk assessments are comprehensive and well documented and provide clear guidance so that staff can respond promptly to an identified risk.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff’s support and actions have resulted in significant progress, reducing the level and frequency of children’s known risks. When concerns are identified, staff have discussions with the children to help them understand what their risks and vulnerabilities are and how staff intend to support them through them.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff know the children well and are highly sensitive to recognising when they are upset. They recognise changes in the children’s body language. Their early intervention reduces the chance of children’s emotions escalating. When incidents occur, staff respond appropriately and keep children as safe as possible. Following behavioural incidents, discussions take place to empower the children to look at alternative ways of expressing their emotions and feelings. This has been effective and helps children to identify alternative ways of expressing themselves, for example, through drawings and painting.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Staff demonstrate vigilance and professionalism in their approach, responding swiftly to safeguard children. Staff work collaboratively with safeguarding agencies, such as the police. There has been a significant reduction in incidents of children going missing from the home. When children go missing, staff search for them to ensure that they are quickly located and returned home. The children are welcomed back and have the opportunity to speak to someone independently to identify why they left the home and what could be done to prevent a repeat incident.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

When staff need to hold children, physical intervention is used appropriately and for the shortest time possible and is only ever used for the purpose of keeping a child safe. Positive behaviour is promoted through clear boundaries and expectations that are agreed with the children.

p.4

How well children and young people are helped and protected: outstanding

Professionals said that they are confident that the staff do everything they can to keep the children safer. Staff work closely with the children and their families so that everybody is collaboratively working together, with the manager being a proactive advocate for the children.
