p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2776085 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Improvements have been made to the home environment since the last full inspection on 23 July 2025. The home is now a warm and welcoming space, and children are increasingly choosing to spend time in the communal areas.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children are now actively participating in their education. One child is attending school on a full-time basis, while another is receiving tuition in the home. As a result, children are becoming more ambitious for their future and confident in their ability to learn.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children benefit from well-established daily routines. They have developed a range of interests inside and outside the home, which is helping to promote their personal development and sense of enjoyment.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children’s voices are heard and valued by staff. Children’s meetings take place regularly. However, the children prefer these to be individual meetings rather than as a group. Children are encouraged to lead these discussions, and their views are heard and acted on. Staff use these sessions effectively to offer praise and positive reinforcement, which supports children’s self-esteem and confidence.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When children go missing from the home, staff take prompt and appropriate action. They search the local area and contact relevant individuals, including family members and external professionals. On the child’s return, staff provide them with time and space to discuss the reasons they went missing and explore what support they may need to reduce the risk of it happening in the future. Incidents of children going missing have significantly reduced.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Children are helped to keep themselves safe through regular conversations with staff, including following any incidents of concern. These discussions help children understand why the staff are concerned, for example, about their online activity or vaping, and they strengthen their understanding of how to keep themselves safe.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

When incidents of concern occur, staff respond appropriately in line with children’s individual plans. Staff support children during difficult situations to help them remain safe. All incidents are reviewed by managers to ensure consistency in care practice and to identify any learning or patterns.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff participate in regular team meetings and supervision sessions. A particularly effective reflective session was held with night staff following a recent incident, which supported learning and professional development. However, not all team meetings and supervision sessions consistently incorporate such reflective practice and discussions about children. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2776085 3 When concerns regarding staff practice or complaints arise, appropriate and timely action is taken to address them. Investigations are carried out where required, ensuring that matters are thoroughly reviewed and resolved.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The introduction of a learning and development lead has been an asset, enhancing staff’s confidence and their ability to support children effectively. When learning has been identified, it is shared with the wider team, resulting in increased confidence and improved practice across the staff group.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

The management shows a strong commitment to staff development and progression. Staff report feeling well supported by both the management team and their colleagues, contributing to a positive and collaborative working environment.
