Inspection report for supported accommodation provider – monitoring visit: Canary House Care Limited 1 Canary House Care Limited
p.1
Registered provider: Canary House Care Limited
p.1
Inspected under the social care common inspection framework
p.1
provider
This supported accommodation service is operated by a private provider. The provider can accommodate up to five children in one property that is limited to accommodating looked-after children or care leavers, and one additional child in a single occupancy property. The provider operates in the north of England and the east of England.
p.1
provider
At the time of the inspection, the service provided supported accommodation for five children in total: four in the shared property and one in the single occupancy property.
p.1
provider
The shared property was visited by the inspector to meet with the registered service manager and the nominated individual and to gather an overview of all children placed with the provider.
p.1
provider
Both the registered service manager and the nominated individual have been in post since the provider was registered with Ofsted in May 2025.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Ofsted completed a monitoring visit to the provider on 22 September 2025 to address specific concerns received by Ofsted. Ofsted issued one compliance notice under regulation 4, leadership and management. On 28 October 2025, Ofsted completed a second monitoring visit to the provider to assess the actions taken by the provider to address concerns about the admission of children outside the scope of the supported accommodation regulations. The 28 October 2025 visit found that the provider was not yet able to demonstrate good decision-making regarding children only being admitted to the service when their needs are within the scope of Inspection report for supported accommodation provider – monitoring visit: Canary House Care Limited 2 supported accommodation. Consequently, Ofsted issued one compliance notice under regulation 4, leadership and management.
p.1
This monitoring visit
The purpose of this monitoring visit was again to assess the actions taken by the provider to address concerns about the admission of children outside the scope of the supported accommodation regulations.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The provider is no longer accommodating a child who was receiving care and who was outside the scope of suitability for supported accommodation.
p.2
This monitoring visit
A new child has been placed with the provider after discussions with the local authority. The provider ensured that relevant documentation was received to support its decision to admit the child. Furthermore, managers have liaised with the child’s social worker and social worker’s manager to gather further information about the child’s needs and risks to inform support plans and risk management plans.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The location of one property means it is difficult for the child placed to be fully independent. In addition, external factors mean additional staff members are required on site. The registered service manager and the nominated individual have therefore made the decision to apply for the provision to become a children’s home.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Managers spoke of a more vigorous referral process and the process is now documented. The policy requires some further amendment before it is fully suitable.
p.2
This monitoring visit
The provider has been able to demonstrate appropriate decision-making regarding children only being admitted to the service whose needs are within the scope of supported accommodation. Therefore, the combination of progress made and the decision to register as a children’s home mean that although there are some further adjustments needed to the policy, on balance the compliance notice is met.
p.2
This monitoring visit
There are no requirements or recommendations raised from the visit.
p.2
