p.2

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

Since the last monitoring visit on 6 August 2025, no children have moved into the home. The responsible individual and acting manager have been active in developing the home in anticipation of a child moving in. The home continues to meet the requirements for registration, and the statement of purpose is an accurate reflection of the care and support they will provide to a child.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The home provides a safe and comfortable environment for children to enjoy. Improvements to the décor and furniture make it feel welcoming. For example, new downstairs flooring and updated bedroom furniture have been added. This will help any child moving into the home to feel valued and cared for and be proud of their home.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

The children’s guide is developed to be personal to each child. It sets out pertinent information in a child-friendly manner that children can access and understand. It contains photos of the home and staff to help prepare children prior to moving in. This helps children to feel more assured and welcome when moving into the home.

p.3

Overall experiences and progress of children and young people: good

New systems have been developed by the manager and responsible individual to ensure children can raise any concerns that they may have and that their voices are heard. For example, children can access the online database and send messages to the manager, responsible individual and their social worker, should they wish. There is a secure box downstairs where children can write a comment and post it anonymously. Moreover, the manager has sourced an advocacy service should children need to speak to someone independent of the home.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff are well trained and feel competent to perform their role. Additional training has been sourced to strengthen and develop the safeguarding practice of staff. For example, staff received additional face-to-face training in safeguarding and understanding child exploitation, substance misuse, self-harm and suicide. Staff have received additional training to understand past traumas children may have experienced and how these impact children.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

Staff understand the safeguarding procedures of the organisation and how to raise concerns to external professional agencies. The home’s online database system is enabled to give open access to chosen professionals, such as the independent visitor and social workers. Therefore, records and incidents can be externally monitored and reviewed at any time. This transparency increases safety for children.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

New staff coming to work at the home are safely recruited. Effective processes are in place to ensure that staff are safe to work in the home. These checks are reviewed and Inspection report for children’s home: 2659026 4 overseen by the manager. Any gaps or shortfalls are scrutinised, and those staff with unsatisfactory checks are not successful in working in the organisation.

p.3

How well children and young people are helped and protected: good

The safety and location of the home are regularly reviewed to ensure its continued suitability. The relevant risks are carefully considered, and steps are identified to reduce any risk to children. Safety in the home is taken seriously. For example, all staff are trained in fire safety, and the manager carries out regular fire drills and checks.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

There have been several changes in the management of the home since the last inspection. Despite best efforts to recruit a manager, the provider has experienced challenges that have caused delays and disruption. For instance, a manager was successfully recruited but did not make it through the safer recruitment checks. A new manager has recently been appointed but is not yet registered with Ofsted.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The acting manager is making positive improvements to the service. For example, medication storage and administration processes have been updated and simplified. Medication competency checks are in place to ensure that staff can safely manage and administer children’s medication.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The manager has appropriate monitoring and quality assurance systems in place. While these are largely untested, they provide the required oversight and inform the manager of what is happening in the home daily. Prompts and alerts are programmed to capture gaps and shortfalls. Internal and external audits are undertaken, and findings are used to improve practice.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The responsible individual and manager have recruited and trained a new staff team. The staff team is diverse and staff have relevant knowledge and experience. Staff feel well supported by the manager. Staff like working at the home and are developing effective relationships with each other. This provides a positive environment for children.
