School progress monitoring inspection report

Main inspection findings
Part 1. Quality of education provided Paragraphs 3 to 3(b) At the previous inspection, the implementation of the curriculum was less effective in some areas than in others. In too many subjects, teaching did not enable pupils to build the knowledge, skills or behaviours they need. Activities did not enable pupils to learn well enough. Some tasks were often too easy. This had a negative impact on pupils’ achievement and motivation to learn. The school proposed to address this by providing teachers with a programme of professional development and training. It proposed to monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching with greater rigour. The school intended to conduct lesson observations and give feedback to teachers. It intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to observe high-quality teaching in other schools. Since the previous inspection, the school has acted with appropriate urgency to improve

the quality of teaching. It has developed a research-based model for teaching that is implemented consistently well by teachers. Teachers receive regular and constructive feedback on their teaching. The school provides teachers with ongoing training appropriate to individual development needs. This training includes visits to observe teaching in other schools. Teachers set appropriate work for pupils that meets pupils’ needs and abilities. They give pupils feedback that helps pupils to secure their knowledge and understanding. Pupils show positive attitudes to their learning. They demonstrate sustained effort in their work. The school now meets all of the requirements of the independent school standard (the standards) in this part.

Part 8. Quality of leadership in and management of schools Paragraphs 34(1) to 34(1)(b) At the previous inspection, the proprietor did not ensure that those responsible for the leadership and management of the school possessed the knowledge and skills required to fulfil their roles effectively. The school did not meet the standard for the quality of teaching. The school proposed to address this by identifying and meeting the professional development needs of those staff with leadership and management responsibilities. It intended to provide training that would enable these staff to fulfil their roles effectively. It also intended to provide professional development opportunities that would prepare staff to take on greater leadership responsibility. The school also proposed to monitor and evaluate provision, including the quality of education, with greater rigour. Since the previous inspection, the school has provided those staff with leadership and

management responsibilities with appropriate training and professional development. These staff possess the knowledge and skills required for their roles. They perform their roles effectively. In addition, the proprietor has established a long-term succession plan for the leadership of the school. The proprietor is providing relevant staff with the training that they need to take on greater leadership responsibility. The proprietor has also strengthened the school’s improvement planning and quality assurance systems and processes. It has continued to refine these aspects of its work to ensure continuous improvement of provision. School leaders have individual responsibility for different requirements of the standards. The leadership team has a collective responsibility to ensure that the standards are met consistently over time. The leadership team meets regularly to review the school’s provision against the standards.

Furthermore, the school involves education leaders from other schools and organisations in supporting the monitoring and evaluation of provision. These education leaders, together with the school’s governing body, provide appropriate challenge. The school now meets all of the requirements of the standard in this part.

Information about this inspection
This inspection was carried out at the request of the registration authority for independent schools. The purpose of the inspection was to monitor the progress the school has made in meeting the independent school standards and other requirements that it was judged to not comply with at its previous inspection. The school’s previous inspection, at which the school was judged not to comply with the standards, was a standard inspection and took place on 11 to 13 February 2025. This was the school’s first progress monitoring inspection since the standard inspection in February 2025. The Department for Education (DfE) required the school to prepare an action plan. This was a statutory requirement. Ofsted evaluated the school’s action plan on 2 June 2025. The DfE rejected the school’s action plan. This progress monitoring inspection was conducted without notice. To check compliance with the standards, the inspectors met with the chair of the

proprietor body, who is also the headteacher, and with another member of the proprietor body who is the school’s business manager. The inspectors also met with the deputy headteacher, the curriculum leader and with other staff. They looked at schemes of work, visited lessons, sampled pupils’ work and spoke with pupils. The inspection also considered the school’s safeguarding arrangements, including the single central record of pre-employment checks and whether the school’s safeguarding policy is available to parents and carers. These requirements of the standards are met.
