p.1
This monitoring visit
This monitoring visit was completed following a serious incident involving a child. The inspector reviewed the quality of support and safeguarding arrangements for children placed in the supported accommodation provision. The visit included a review of records for two children, one who has left the service and another who currently resides at the provision, as well as discussions with staff and management.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Children placed at the provision appear to receive support in line with the Supported Accommodation Regulations. However, there are some areas requiring improvement to ensure the safety and suitability of children’s placements. Strengths were noted in staff’s commitment to children and the support offered to children. Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Dynamic Housing Care and Support Ltd 2 Managers and staff spoke positively about the children the service supports. Children receive support to develop their independent living skills, engage in education or training and participate in activities that interest them.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Managers do not always sufficiently consider the referral information for children accepted into the service. When there are known concerns about children’s ability to live independently, the provider has not sufficiently explored these prior to the children arriving. This does not appear to have impacted on the support children receive. However, unchecked, managers’ failure to sufficiently explore whether the service is the right setting for a child and how they will meet children’s needs has the potential to do so.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff completed key-work sessions with the child involved in the serious incident to address emerging concerns. Staff were persistent in offering support to encourage the child to engage in these sessions, but engagement was inconsistent. The quality and structure of the sessions improved once the registered manager assumed responsibility for their delivery. Despite this, managers did not review the child’s risk assessment to incorporate recommendations arising from these sessions, particularly following an increase in absences from the premises.
p.2
This monitoring visit
When there were concerns for the child, managers and staff took effective action to try and address this. When a child was associating with another young person, the manager took steps to gain information about them to determine whether any additional safeguarding steps were needed.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff demonstrated a good understanding of children’s needs. However, the staff training matrix revealed gaps in training, with one staff member having not completed several relevant courses, including safeguarding. The registered manager was unaware of these gaps, suggesting a need for improved oversight.
