p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children’s moves to the home are well planned and considerate of their wishes. The manager meets with the local authority and carers to understand the children’s needs and preferences. The manager speaks with the children to listen to their views and involve them in the planning for their move to the home. Clinical staff are used to assess the ability of the staff team to care for the children appropriately. As a result, the staff at the home are better prepared to promote a positive experience for the children.

Findings from the inspection
Children are increasing their engagement in regular activities. They have been consulted about their preferences. After-school clubs and sports teams help to improve their social inclusion and personal development. The older children have increased their independence and enjoyed joint activities with their peers.

Findings from the inspection
Leaders and managers continually develop the staff in relation to the safeguarding of children. Managers use regular staff meetings and development days to reflect on incidents and identify lessons that can be learned. Policies and procedures are shared and discussed during team meetings, and learning is reviewed in staff supervision sessions. In addition, the manager and deputy manager continue their own professional development, attending an external training provider for allegations management training.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When children are missing from home, the staff work quickly to establish their location and return them as quickly and safely as possible. The staff work with family and friends to gather information and inform the police in line with agreed local protocols. When children return home, the staff contact the local authority to ensure a return home interview is offered. This helps them to gather information and update children’s plans.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The manager has effective oversight of the home. ‘Line of sight’ and ‘compliance audits’ are used to review the quality of the home’s systems and processes. The manager shares feedback in weekly briefings to reflect and improve care practice and the quality of recording. Staff say the briefings are effective to ensure they have Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC455864 3 understood the information or changes required. In addition, the manager responds to external audits and addresses the actions within an appropriate timeframe. As a result, the external auditor is now identifying increasingly fewer shortfalls.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Children’s bedrooms are generally clean and tidy, well furnished and decorated in line with their wishes. For one child, however, the staff have not established the same routine to ensure his bedroom is also clean. The room contained lots of used crockery, cutlery and rubbish from food and drinks. The floors and walls appeared dirty, and the windows had cobwebs. The child’s bed also appeared to be broken, and medication equipment was left on the floor and not stored properly. This is unhygienic and could harm the child’s health. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: SC455864 4
