Information about this inspection
the care of children the safety of children the effectiveness of leaders and managers. Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2638239 2
p.1
Findings from the inspection
We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager and staff know the child well and consistently provide care and support without conditions, regardless of the circumstances. They are attentive to the child’s emotional needs; they recognise when the child is upset and respond appropriately. This approach helps the child feel valued, cared for and supported. Staff talk to the child about important issues and offer advice to minimise risks. These discussions are regular and offer guidance to the child. This helps the child develop trusting relationships with staff.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Risk assessments are updated regularly and provide clear direction on what staff should do in given situations to minimise risks. Staff prioritise the child’s safety and follow these plans.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
When the child goes missing from home, staff respond immediately. Staff search known locations and continue to communicate with the child until they are found. Staff speak to the child about the risks associated with them leaving the home. Recordings do not demonstrate that following all missing-from-home episodes, an independent return home interview is offered to the child.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Plans for the child’s education are not robust, which means that the child is not encouraged to prioritise learning or develop new social skills. There is limited evidence of staff helping the child acquire new skills or establish a routine that would promote learning.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
Staff are offered regular supervision and training opportunities. Bespoke training helps the staff provide tailored care for the child. Not all staff have had the opportunity to complete their childcare diploma within the agreed time frame.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager reviews key documents and communicates updates regarding incidents to relevant professionals and, where appropriate, the regulator. An independent visitor has been appointed, but visits have not taken place in line with statutory guidance. The registered manager’s oversight of these reports has not been sufficiently robust.
p.2
Findings from the inspection
The registered manager has responded to two of the recommendations raised at the last inspection. There is one recommendation that has not been actioned. This has been restated. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2638239 3
