Children select their favourite resources, and the childminder settles at the children's level to play. Children demonstrate high levels of confidence. They are eager to talk to visitors and show them what they can do.

The provision is good
Children benefit from a good balance of adult-led and child-initiated play. This helps them to develop independence and confidence. The childminder regularly rotates activities to help children remain curious and eager to explore. Children have access to an extensive outdoor area that is purposefully set up to support children's learning and development. Children receive meaningful learning that supports their development in the prime areas. The childminder understands how to seek suitable support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). She works closely with other professionals and parents to provide activities that support children well. The childminder has a good understanding of children's needs and is keen to increase her knowledge of understanding how best to support children with SEND. She ensures that packed lunches adhere to healthy eating guidance and shares information with parents on a regular basis. Children are offered fresh fruit for breakfast. Children have independent access to water throughout the day and are reminded to stay hydrated. This helps to embed good healthy-eating habits. n The childminder knows children well and regularly assesses their learning to monitor their progress. The childminder identifies any gaps in learning and ensures that children's planned next steps are clear. She shares these with parents to help children continue learning at home. However, she does not always incorporate these next steps into everyday routines and activities, which reduces opportunities for children to make even better progress in their learning

and development. n The childminder identifies communication and language as a key area of focus in her setting. She responds to children warmly, talking to children and giving commentary on what they are doing. The childminder asks children questions and encourages them to practise new words as they join in with activities. However, she does not support children to develop their ideas further. This prevents children from extending their developing thinking skills even further.
