This supported accommodation service is operated by a private provider. The provider operates in the North of England and the East of England.

This monitoring visit
This visit was arranged to address specific concerns received by Ofsted.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Poor decision-making by leaders and managers has resulted in the admission of a child who requires high levels of support and supervision. The child’s freedom of movement is currently curtailed by a court order, which is outside of the scope of suitability for supported accommodation.
p.1
This monitoring visit
Staffing levels are high, to manage the level of risk. Similarly, there are a range of security measures in place to limit the movement or monitor the child’s activities within the property. There has been the need to increase these measures since the child moved in. One of these includes the need for staff to sleep in the communal living room, as the child would need to enter this room should the child want to exit the property during the night. However, previous known risks have not been explored by managers in relation to this and no risk management strategy has been employed. This places the child and staff at risk of harm. Inspection report for supported accommodation provider - monitoring visit: Canary House Care Limited Staff complete a range of online training courses as part of their induction to the service. However, needs-led training to help them meet the individual needs of the children they support is not always available to them. This includes the misuse of

drugs as well as knife crime awareness. This limits staff’s ability to provide the best support to children. Staff themselves identify this as an area for improvement.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Some essential information about children is not easy to access. The provider’s register of children that have been accommodated does not include all the required information. This means that crucial information is difficult to locate.
p.2
This monitoring visit
Staff provide a helpful monthly report for social workers, outlining what has gone well for the child. They also complete some key-working with the child. However, staff were unclear if they should be completing work on known risks, as they were unaware of the work being completed by other involved professionals. This is significant given the increased level of care and supervision that the child currently requires, which is outside of the scope of supported accommodation. Staff also struggled to locate a meaningful up-to-date support plan on the child. Staff had differing understanding of some expectations of the support to be provided.
