p.1

The provision is good

Children are well settled at this setting, displaying contentment through joyful smiles. The nurturing childminder creates a stimulating environment that thoughtfully reflects children's interests and developmental needs. She gently encourages them to make informed choices about their play, promoting curiosity and a love for exploration. For example, in the garden, children are captivated by the pretend kitchen where they operate the sink to pretend to wash dishes. Children also skilfully fill and pour as they use jugs with water, enhancing their dexterity and hand-to-eye coordination. Throughout these activities, the childminder engages them in meaningful conversations, offering guidance when required.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder provides great support and has built warm and trusting relationships with the children. She responds promptly to their needs, fostering a calm and respectful environment where children behave well and show consideration for others. As a result, they engage confidently with their learning and follow the setting's routines with ease. The childminder consistently acknowledges their achievements and praises their efforts. This helps them develop the resilience and independence needed to become positive and successful learners.

p.2

The provision is good

Children benefit from exciting trips and outings to local parks, zoo and farms, which enrich their learning and broaden their experiences. They are captivated by opportunities to interact with animals and enjoy meeting other children. This helps build on children's understanding of the world and strengthens their social skills and builds confidence.

n The childminder is knowledgeable and has good understanding of children's learning and development. She creates and implements effective systems to record and track children's progress. The childminder completes regular assessments that she shares with the parents and other professionals with whom she formed effective relationships. She plans a wide selection of activities, taking into consideration children's next steps and abilities. However, the childminder has not considered how to adapt the implementation of some activities to ensure that children are consistently supported in extending their learning further. n The childminder actively promotes effective communication and language development. She introduces new words, such as 'cockroach' and 'dragonfly' to expand children's vocabulary. Using visual prompts, the childminder explains the meaning of these words and encourages children to discuss the insects,

As they listen intently to their favourite story about a centipede, children point at some of the insects and name them with confidence. They follow the narratives with curiosity and make predictions about what is going to happen next. This supports children's early reading skills. n In the garden, children enjoy exploring a tray filled with leaves, wooden logs and pretend insects. The childminder provides clear instructions on how to use magnifying glasses to search for hidden bugs. Children follow these instructions attentively, successfully identifying and naming the insects and matching them to corresponding pictures. As a result, children strengthen their listening, attention and problem-solving skills. n To further enhance children's fine motor skills, creativity, and imagination, the

childminder provides them with a rich variety of materials. This includes offering children play dough, cutters, and other resources for children to create their own bugs. Children focus intently as they mould the dough with their hands, carefully adding small pretend eyes and legs with remarkable precision. The childminder then encourages them to name and describe their creations, to support their communication development. n The childminder is reflective. She recognises the importance of keeping her skills and knowledge current to benefit children's learning and regularly engages in training opportunities. The childminder established effective relationships with local childminders with whom she collaborates and exchanges best practices. n Partnerships with parents are well-established. They consistently praise the childminder's nurturing approach and value the purposeful activities provided. Parents also appreciate the childminder's genuine interest in each child's
