p.1

The provision is good

The childminder takes the time to offer exceptional support to children when they first start attending. She fosters close relationships with parents and children to help them develop a sense of connection and belonging. Children stay close to the childminder and seek her out for reassurance when they are unsettled. They become calm as she offers cuddles to promote their emotional well-being. This builds children's confidence, allowing them to venture away from the childminder and become engrossed in self-chosen play. Children explore the learning environment to select the resources they would like to play with. Younger children show a great interest in the soft footballs available. They develop good hand-eye coordination and strengthen the muscles in their shoulders as they delight in throwing the balls to the childminder and saying 'catch'. They smile and giggle as the balls bounce several times.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder follows children's lead as she uses their interests and fascinations to build on what they already know. Young children show great interest in animals and the noises they make. They are fascinated by small world figures that they explore as they engage in imaginative play. Children choose animals to hold and delight in making different animal noises with the childminder. For example, they say 'woof' when they are holding the dog and 'moo' when they spot the cow.

n The childminder plans effectively for children's learning. She uses her careful observations of children to work in partnership with parents to agree on their next steps. This helps the childminder to plan activities and experiences that build on what children already know and can do. As a result of her firmly embedded and well-sequenced curriculum, children are well supported and make good progress. n The childminder understands the importance of professional development to update and refresh her knowledge. She is highly committed to attending regular training sessions, which enable her to implement the newly acquired information effectively. The childminder shares statutory updates with parents to ensure they are kept abreast of any changes. n The childminder is an excellent role model for children's communication and language development. She takes every opportunity to add new words to young children's vocabulary. The childminder promptly identifies any delay in children's

16 September 2025 children to local groups so they can build relationships with their peers. The childminder utilises these opportunities to encourage children's social interaction skills. This helps children to learn how to take turns and engage in cooperative play as they get older. n The childminder introduces some mathematical concepts throughout the day, for example when children show interest in shape sorters and stackers. The childminder names different colours and shapes as children explore. However, she does not routinely incorporate counting and numbers into activities and everyday routines, which would further support children's early mathematical awareness. n The childminder implements respectful care routines. She involves even the youngest children in thorough handwashing after nappy changing and before eating. This helps to lay firm foundations for children's independence and understanding of self-care.

need to do better?

n The childminder nurtures children's love of early reading. She takes them to the library every week, where they spend time together exploring and choosing books. In the setting, the childminder displays quality texts for very young children to choose from. Children snuggle close to her and enjoy pointing to the pictures and feeling different textures as they share stories. This encourages children's early literacy skills. n The childminder develops strong bonds with parents, who appreciate the support she offers to them. Parents comment positively on how children learn about the world around them. They are delighted with the strong progress that children make while in the care of the childminder.
