p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2844955 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The registered manager left shortly after the home was registered. Leaders have taken appropriate action to appoint an acting manager while recruitment for a permanent manager is sourced. The new manager is committed and has high expectations of staff.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

One child recently experienced a well-planned and child-centred move into the home. The child visited beforehand, and staff took time to build relationships and understand their individual needs. This thoughtful approach supported a smooth transition and helped establish positive relationships, contributing to the child’s sense of safety and belonging.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Managers and staff speak positively and with enthusiasm about the child, showing high hopes for their development. Interactions between the child and staff are caring and nurturing. Staff understand the child’s communication needs. They have introduced visual supports to help the child express choices around food and activities. This enables the child to have their voice heard when making everyday decisions.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

An appropriate education placement has been identified for the child. Clear plans are in place to support their learning, and a suitable transition is being arranged to help the child to adjust.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There have been no physical interventions, missing-from-home incidents or safeguarding concerns. Staff are confident in their safeguarding responsibilities and understand the whistle-blowing process. This helps to create an environment that keeps children safe.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There is a stable staff team caring for the child. Induction processes are effective, and staff spoke positively about the training and support they receive. This helps staff to feel valued and confident in their role.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Staff receive training relevant to their roles and the child’s needs. However, the manager has not identified the need for training on the safe use of vehicle harnesses and reins, resulting in staff lacking confidence and competence in using the equipment safely. Additionally, some staff have not completed their qualification within expected timescales. Managers have not taken sufficient action to ensure that staff’s progress towards their relevant qualification is monitored.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Safer recruitment processes are not always implemented fully. There has been a lack of professional curiosity during one person’s recruitment checks when receiving references. This could lead to unsuitable individuals looking after children. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 2844955 3
