p.1

The provision is good

Children settle quickly and thrive in a calm, inviting environment where they explore a wide variety of toys and activities both indoors and outdoors. During play, the childminder introduces new words, for instance, 'cylinder' and encourages children to use this as they describe shapes and objects they are playing with. This helps children to develop their vocabulary and speak with confidence. These daily interactions nurture language skills and spark curiosity, making learning meaningful and enjoyable.

p.2

The provision is good

The childminder actively supports children's mathematical development by engaging them in hands-on experiences, such as counting fruit at snack time. She encourages children to peel their own bananas and use a knife safely, guiding them to count each piece they cut. When the children choose raspberries, she prompts them to count aloud and praises their efforts, fostering growing confidence. As a result, children make rapid progress in their communication and mathematical skills. She sets clear expectations for behaviour, reminding children to share, take turns, and listen to one another during these routines. By celebrating their successes and offering gentle reminders when needed, she helps children develop patience, cooperation, and respect for others.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children feel welcome and valued in the warm, inclusive environment the childminder creates. They explore the thoughtfully organised selection of age- appropriate toys and resources, which spark their curiosity and support their development in all areas. Through a diverse and stimulating range of activities, both structured and freely chosen, children engage enthusiastically, follow their interests, and make meaningful progress in their learning and personal growth. n The childminder gathers children for story time and encourages their participation. She continues reading even when some children lose focus or become distracted by nearby resources, without adjusting her approach. As a result, not all children engage fully, and some do not develop their listening and attention skills as effectively as possible. This limits their opportunities to benefit from group learning and to build positive attitudes towards shared activities.

p.2

need to do better?

n Children enjoy going on outings and attending local community groups with the childminder. They learn about a wide range of different cultures and festivals. The childminder uses these opportunities to help children learn about other people. n The childminder nurtures children's confidence and sense of security by welcoming them warmly, including those who are new to the setting. She encourages children to take appropriate risks and builds their independence by teaching them to fetch their own plates and use knives safely when cutting fruit.

p.2

need to do better?

9 September 2025 As a result, children develop practical skills, learn to make safe choices, and build confidence in their own abilities. n The childminder explains rules and boundaries to help children manage their behaviour. However, she does not always provide specific support when children struggle to follow expectations. On these occasions, children do not benefit from more-tailored guidance to strengthen their self-regulation skills and encourage positive behaviour. n The childminder updates her skills and knowledge by attending face-to-face training and completing online courses. This enables her to stay up to date with current developments in childcare and education, and she embeds these in her daily practice. She shares her considerable expertise with other childminding contacts. n The childminder builds positive partnerships with the local nursery school. She takes time to share planning and discuss children's progress. This means that

children are well supported and make good progress. The childminder plans effectively for the development of children's next steps based on her shared knowledge with other settings. n Parents praise the childminder and say that she creates a 'friendly, safe environment'. The childminder maintains an effective two-way flow of information with parents. She works closely with them to find out what their children can do when they join her setting and uses this information to assess quickly what each individual child needs to learn next. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure continuity of learning between her setting and home.
