p.1

Information about this inspection

 the care of children  the safety of children  the effectiveness of leaders and managers. The inspector has looked closely at the experiences and progress of children, using the social care common inspection framework. This assurance inspection was carried out under the Care Standards Act 2000 to assess the effectiveness of the service, how it meets the core functions of the service as set out in legislation, and to consider how well it complies with The Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the ‘Guide to the Children’s Homes Regulations, including the quality standards’. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 1261138 2

p.1

Findings from the inspection

We did not identify any serious or widespread concerns in relation to the care or protection of children at this assurance inspection.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last full inspection, one child has moved out of the home and into supported accommodation. This move was well planned, and the child was fully involved in the planning. The manager advocated well for the child to ensure that their move went smoothly. The child was able to say goodbye to the other children through a series of activities, and the manager ensured that the child had what they needed for their new home.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Three of the children attend education provision consistently and have received positive end-of-year reports highlighting their progress. For one child who can struggle to attend school, the staff have ensured that they remain in a routine and have consistently promoted education. At the time of this visit, the children were enjoying their summer holidays and had been on lots of different activities.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, there has continued to be some conflict between the children. However, the staff have managed this appropriately, and, due to consistent conversations, children have been able to reflect on their behaviour, apologise to each other and move on positively. The children now receive the appropriate supervision levels, which means there have been no further safeguarding incidents involving children being alone together.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The children’s health needs are well met, and the staff ensure that they obtain medical advice if they have any concerns. Appropriate referrals are made when children require additional, specialised support.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Incidents of children leaving the home and not returning are rare. When this has happened, the staff have followed clear guidelines, including looking for the child, speaking with families and ensuring the safe return of the child. Return home interviews are requested and completed. This provides staff with the information to try to reduce the risk of such incidents happening again.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

There have been three incidents of restraint since the last inspection. The manager has agreed that these have been appropriate and ensures that the staff and the children can reflect on incidents.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

Since the last inspection, there have been significant changes to the staff team that have resulted in additional pressures. However, the manager has worked hard to recruit a new team that they feel have taken to their roles well, reducing the impact of the changes on the children. The children have already formed positive relationships with these new staff. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 1261138 3 The manager responds appropriately to safeguarding concerns relating to staff and works with other relevant agencies to ensure that those working with children are safe to do so.

p.2

Findings from the inspection

The manager has implemented a development plan that focuses on the new staff team and ensuring that all understand and embed the ethos of the home into their practice. There has been an increase in feedback gained from the independent person, which further supports improvements.

p.3

Findings from the inspection

The staff report that they feel supported by the manager and that supervision sessions and team meetings have been useful to support their development. The manager has met the requirements and recommendations made at the last inspection. Assurance inspection report for children’s home: 1261138 4
