Inspection of Superstar Sports Titchfield Titchfield Cp School, Southampton Road, Titchfield, Fareham PO14 4AU

p.1

This provision does not meet requirements

There are some weaknesses in the organisation of the holiday club. Leaders do not have a clear understanding of their responsibilities under the 'Statutory framework for the early years foundation stage'. There are no suitably qualified staff to care for and work with young children. Leaders do not ensure children have healthy meals supplied, and there is no key-person system in place.

p.2

This provision does not meet requirements

Despite this, children have a warm welcome from staff in the morning when they arrive. Staff provide children with a variety of activities to choose from as they settle in. Staff support and encourage children to explore and play. Children show they enjoy the opportunity to play freely and chat to their friends. Staff offer children positive interactions, helping them to feel welcomed.

This provision does not meet requirements

Leaders have clear aims for children attending the holiday club. They plan a high- energy, fun-packed programme of activities for children to enjoy. Staff are enthusiastic, which supports children to join in and benefit from all that staff offer them.

need to do better?

n Leaders do not ensure that the required qualification ratios are met or that there is an effective key-person system in place to support the early years children. This does not ensure that these youngest children benefit from care and support that are tailored to their specific needs. n Children enjoy social mealtimes. They chatter excitedly to staff and their friends, talking about the activities so far and what is yet to come. However, at times, staff do not fully consider that some children have to wait much longer than others to eat their meal. Occasionally, organisation of daily routines is not fully inclusive, and children have to wait unnecessarily. Leaders do not ensure they supply healthy meals for children. Children have snacks and meals at the club and have unlimited access to water to drink. However, leaders do not ensure that the food they provide is nutritious and supports children to make healthy

choices, as required. This is also a breach of the Childcare Register. n Staff have high expectations for children. For example, they ask children to listen carefully to instructions and remind them of the rules and boundaries of the club. Staff help children to play team games and develop good sportsmanship. For instance, they celebrate everyone's achievements. Children demonstrate that they respect what staff say and follow requests swiftly. n Staff help children get to know each other and build friendships. For example, at the start of the day, staff encourage children to say hello to each other. Staff put children in pairs as they move around the club site, helping them to speak to

They support children's social skills well. n Staff are enthusiastic role models for children. For instance, they play actively with children during games to capture cones and pirate treasure. Children show they enjoy playing these games as they laugh with delight. Staff encourage children to get involved and enjoy their time at the club. n Children benefit from time to explore outdoors as they complete craft activities. Staff help children to look carefully for natural resources to add to crowns and to hunt for minibeasts. Children show they feel safe in the staff's care, seeking them out to share their discoveries. n Staff encourage children to develop good hygiene routines. For instance, they support children to wash their hands before eating. Staff remind children to have

regular drinks. They support children well to understand why they need to drink after being active. n Leaders have effective systems in place to ensure staff have the support they need for their roles. For example, they offer a training and development programme that supports all staff to improve their skills and knowledge. Staff report that they feel they have good opportunities to develop their practice further. n Partnership working with parents is effective. Leaders provide a lot of relevant information before children start at the club. This helps to ensure that parents know what to send with their children for their day at the club. Parents say their children enjoy their time and they have good feedback from staff about what their children do.
