If children go missing, there are clear processes and plans for the staff to follow. The staff complete detailed records of the event while the child is away from the home. When new risks are identified linked to the children going missing, staff respond proactively, amending and updating plans and risk assessments. Staffing levels overnight have been increased recently to ensure the children receive effective care and support when missing from home. Children have return home discussions with staff and external professionals.

p.3

Health and safety checks are thorough and where concerns are identified these are swiftly reported and resolved. Safer recruitment ensures that children are cared for by adults who are deemed suitable. Inspection report for children’s home: 2537252 4 Medication errors are rare. When an error occurs, staff are supported to identify the learning from this, using audits. Errors are also discussed anonymously during team meetings to support learning for staff. When medication is refused by children, there are systems in place to audit and monitor this and for seeking medical advice if required.

Room searches are carried out if there are any safeguarding concerns. Children are engaged with this process and supportive conversations are offered afterwards.

p.4

The effectiveness of leaders and managers: good

The manager focuses on the development of the team to ensure that the children receive the best support and care. There have been several staffing changes recently, but the team has shown its strength and resilience, and these changes have had no impact on the children. p.4
